ABSTRACT This research explored evidences of internal structure and convergent validity as well as reliability of a Spanish version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R) in Peruvian college students. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out sequentially in two randomly assigned sub-groups (n = 289, n = 301). Horn’s parallel analysis and exploratory factor analysis performed with the first subgroup found a structure of three factors (anxiety, avoidance directly measured and avoidance inversely measured). Then, confirmatory factor analysis carried out with the second sub-group replicated a three-factor model with acceptable adjustment indices. Each dimension showed good internal consistency trough Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The results partially support convergent validity of the ECR-R with the Relationship Questionnaire. Finally, a 27-item S...

Mental health indicators of children from 6 to 71 months and their caregivers, and their associated factors, are described during the pandemic context. The information was collected through an ad hoc survey answered by 59,113 caregivers from the 24 departments and the constitutional province of Peru. A significant presence of externalizing behavior problems was reported in boys and girls. 8 out of 10 caregivers reported one or two indicators of anxiety, and around 2 out of 10 caregivers reported feeling stressed on many occasions and be alone in their parenting role. Practical implications for childhood interventions and parenting support are discussed based on the results.

This study evaluates the predictive capacity of sociodemographic variables of the mother over the level of maternal secure base scripts. The participants were 83 mothers from 15 to 45 years old (M = 24.72, SD = 8.70).The level of maternal secure base was evaluated through the Narratives of Adult Attachment (Waters & Waters, 2006). The results show that the participants do not have an adequate level of secure base script. It was found that interaction between the age of the mother and the educational attainment level, partly explains the level of the maternal secure base script (R2 = .19). The protector role of the level of educational attainment for older mothers to have a higher level of secure base scripts isproposed.

This study explores the images that Peruvian mothers of middle and low socioeconomic status hold about childhood. Participants included 91 mothers from four Peruvian cities and information was collected through focus groups. Results show that childhood is seen as a developmental period with its own characteristics and as a period of play and absence of responsibilities. Mothers acknowledge the importance of the affective dimension fordevelopment and perceive the child as an active participant in his surroundings, with cognitive and social capacities. These results reveal a positive view on childhood images in contrast with previous conceptualizations.

Based on the findings from two qualitative studies, this article analyzes motherhood’s meanings for those young women living in poverty. One study explored motherhood’s meanings attributed by 25 mothers from 18 to 20 years old who had a pregnancy during adolescence. The other study examined social representations about the characteristics of early motherhood in 24 non-parents men and women teenagers, in order to understand the culture in which the young mothers live. Results suggest that motherhood represents a positive change for most young women and it structures their identity. The implications of these findings for primary and secondary prevention in this field are discussed.

The Peruvian version of the Infant Facial Expression of Emotions from Looking at Pictures (IFEEL), instrument that assessed the interpretation of emotions from children’s faces pictures is presented. The original version from Emde, Osofsky & Butterfield (1993) was developed in the United States and involves 30 stimuli. The Peruvian version involves 25 pictures of children with prototypic facial features of the majority of Peruvian population. A sample of 363 men and women of middle and low socio-economic status between 19 and 45 years old was recruited to develop the Peruvian version. From the results, a lexicon was created with the words that were used by the participants to designate the 14 groups of emotion that were obtained. The majority of these groups had an adequate reliability for temporal stability. Finally, it was found that the socio-economic status (SES) is a variable ...
