Objective: Evaluate the surface roughness, weight and color of a composite resin, submitted to two finish and polish systems, after contact with beer and rum. Materials and methods: 63 BrilliantTM NG (COLTENE, USA) composite resin discs of 10 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick, after 24 hours of permanence in distilled water, randomly divided into three groups (n: 21) for polishing using Sof-flex (3M-USA) discs and fine-grained diamond burs (KG-Sorensen, Brazil) and third group without any procedure, for each sample the initial measurement was made in weight, roughness and color. The samples were subdivided into three subgroups and submerged in rum, beer or artificial saliva for 7 days; performing a new evaluation of weight, color and roughness. The data obtained were collected in Excel tables and statistically analyzed through Kruskal Wallis, Wilcoxon, Anova and Tukey tests. Results: The Tuk...

The objective of this study is to restore, through the occlusal plane, the aesthetics and functionality of a piece treated endodontically in the posterior sector through an endo-crown. The following case is a 27-year-old male patient with no relevant medical history who attended the SERODU dental clinic. The radiographic examination revealed the endodontic canals, which were protected by a cavity base and provisional filling. The intraoral examination revealed that tooth number 46 lost the distal wall and part of the palatine, so it was decided to carry out the rehabilitation with an endo-crown, as it has a good hermetic seal at the coronal level, it prevents possible re-contamination of the treatment endodontic resulting in a conservative and feasible alternative.

Objective: To determine the antibacterial activity of aqueous grape extracts (Vitis vinifera) obtained from the skin, seed and pulp, on Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 35668, Ecuador), using 0.12% chlorhexidine as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. Materials and methods: Aqueous extracts were obtained from the pulp, seeds and grape skin of the northern region of Ecuador, at a concentration of 40, 70 and 100%, which were impregnated 20 ml each in paper filter discs. and placed in Petri dishes with strains of Streptococcus mutans inoculated on blood agar, disks impregnated in 0.12% chlorhexidine and distilled water were used as control; the antimicrobial activity was evaluated considering the inhibition zones obtained at 24 and 48 hours of incubation. Results: The evaluation times 24 and 48 were different (p = 0.00) showing a greater inhibitory effect at 48 hours, whe...

The lack of harmony in a patient's smile affects their self-esteem and behavior with their environment. Ecuador has been considered an endemic zone of fluorosis, triggering aesthetic and functional dental alterations. Fluorosis appears as opaque spots that follow a horizontal pattern in its early phase and brown spots and loss of structure in an advanced stage. In this article we present the case of a young patient, diagnosed with dental fluorosis grade three of Thylstup-Fejerskov (TF) index, treated with 40% hydrogen peroxide bleaching, followed by 35% peroxide carbamide home whitening for 30 minutes daily, during 7 days. The combination of whitening procedures was ideal to mimic the mottling characteristic of dental fluorosis, thus improving the aesthetics of the patient and guaranteeing the success of the present case. The use of a conservative treatment was effective to restore denta...
