El Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA) es un trastorno del neurodesarrollo, de etiología multifactorial, caracterizado por deterioro en la interacción social, comunicación verbal, no verbal y patrones de comportamiento e intereses restringidos y repetitivos que persiste toda la vida presentando desde modificaciones leves hasta discapacidades graves. Se hace una revisión del trastorno del espectro autista con relación a la detección temprana y las dificultades que se han presentado en este grupo de población vulnerable en este tiempo de pandemia de la COVID-19.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, of multifactorial etiology, characterized by deterioration in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests that persists throughout life, presenting from mild modifications to severe disabilities. A review is made of the autism spectrum disorder in relation to early detection and the difficulties that have arisen in this vulnerable population group in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The case of an adolescent patient diagnosed with Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome caused by emaciation resulting from an eating disorder (Anorexia Nervosa, AN) es described. Its clinical course was severely accentuated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Syndrome is due to the compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta. The main clinical, etiopathogenic and diagnostic characteristics of AN are described; its early diagnosis is essential to improve a prognosis complicated by the consequences of weight loss and malnutrition. Anxious and depressive comorbidities associated with the stress caused by the confinement, and the patient’s obsessive personality traits required a joint treatment by the Pediatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services, the latter with individual and family psychotherapy interventions.

Trichotillomania is a disorder that tends to be chronic and consists of pulling and pulling hair as a compulsive act, which generates various areas of alopecia. In extreme cases after chronic ingestion of hair, severe and serious gastrointestinal disorders such as trichobezoars can be generated, which represents 1% of patients who eat their hair. We present the case of an 11-year-old female patient who was admitted to our hospital for a trichobezoar intestinal obstruction that was initially managed by surgery, from which she was referred to the child psychiatry area, once the surgical problema had been solved, for the corresponding management.

Patients with eating disorder (ED) are a vulnerable population in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some studies describe its negative effect on ED patients and their caregivers. This article presents a narrative review of the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on these patients. Depressive and anxious symptoms, risk of self-harm and suicide are identified. Early intervention and management of patients with ED is a great challenge to the continuity of treatment, detection of comorbidities and relapse prevention.

The case of an adolescent with nocturnal enuresis since childhood, and anxiety symptoms during adolescence, associated with psychosocial factors and family dynamics, is presented. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he presented intense symptoms of anxiety related to fears of dying and/or experiencing a serious illness, reasoned for which he was taken to the emergency room on several occasions. The patient responded favorably to antidepressant medications, and individual and family psychotherapy approaches. Nocturnal enuresis es an elimination disorder rarely seen in adolescence, and whose diagnosis and treatment are important due to its impact on the patient’s psychosocial functioning and greater probabilities of comorbidity. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescents and its higher risk of presenting anxiety, depression and stress associated with enuresis, are also discussed.

La catatonía es un síndrome psiquiátrico cuya conceptualización ha conocido diversos avatares, desde la ya clásica descripción hecha por Kahlbaum. Su prevalencia oscila entre el 7% a 31% de pacientes psiquiátricos, aunque se reporta que frecuentemente es subdiagnosticada.
