The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the genotype on the deposition curve of the chemical components and fatty acid profile of carcass of guinea pigs of Peru and Cieneguilla genotypes. Forty-eight male guinea pigs (24 per genotype), randomly distributed in pens with three animals each per genotype were used. Management and feeding protocols, up to 32 wk of age, were similar for both genotypes. The deposition curve of the chemical components was determined using the Gompertz equation. Data of the fatty acid profile were submitted to analysis of varianza under a Randomized Complete Block Design using the SAS Studio Environment software, with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the asymptote of the moisture and protein content in the carcass of the Peru genotype was higher (P < 0.05) than that of Cieneguilla genotype, but not in the fat content, whic...

The aim of this study was the use of starter concentrate and litter fences in lactating guinea pigs until weaning (15 days). The treatments were: TI, Conventional concentrate (CC) and without litter fence; Control; TII, CC + litter fence; TIII, CC + start concentrate + litter fence. Body weight gain, feed intake and mortality at weaning were evaluated. Nine 1 m2 pits with 5 females and 1 male per pit and litter fences (triangular shape with an area of 0.125 m2) were used (TII and TIII) where clay feeders for the starting concentrate were located (20% protein and 2781 kcal/kg of digestible energy). The conventional (commercial) concentrate for mothers provided 18.7% protein and 2888 kcal/kg of digestible energy. The body weight gain at weaning was 10.3, 9.5 and 9.3 g/d for T I, II and III, respectively, with no significant difference between them. The consumption of concentrate of the off...

The aim of this study was to determine the growth rate and nutritional quality of Guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq) under a silvopastoral system with the faique tree (Acacia macracantha). The evaluation included two seasons (rainy and dry) and three treatments: (1) under the canopy of the young tree, (2) under the canopy of the medium-size tree, and (3) outside the canopy of the tree. The trees were classified according to the diameter at chest height. The growth and quality of the grass were measured by the method of cutting and separation and subsequent laboratory analysis. The growth rate ranged from 71.09 to 51.15 kg DM/ha/d, outside and inside the tree canopy, respectively, in the rainy season. Crude protein varied from 10.58, 12.79 and 13.88% (rainy season) and 8.93, 10.26 and 11.99% (dry season) outside the tree canopy, under the young tree canopy and under the middle tree canop...

The effect of multinutritional blocks (BMN) based on agro-industrial residues on the production and composition of bovine milk in a tropical region of Peru was evaluated. For the elaboration of the BMN, agro-industrial residues from the processing of rice (rice polishing) and coconut (cake) were used. Twelve native cows were used to graze in paddocks with Brachiaria brizantha distributed in two groups (A and B) of six animals during two periods of 21 days each. Two treatments were established: T0 (grazing without supplementation) and T1 (grazing plus supplementation with BMN). During the first period, group A received T1 and group B received T0, while in the second period the reverse was done. Daily milk production (kg/day), milk composition (protein, fat, lactose, total solids, %) and the level of urea in milk (mg/100 ml) were measured. The change-over design was used to analyze the res...
