OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the cases and gynecological laparoscopic management during 1998 in the Central Program Specialties (PCE) EsSalud. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Of the 4460 operations carried out by the PCE in 1998, 792 cases for all gynecological laparoscopic surgery is assessed. Patients were hospitalized two hours before surgery and discharged on average 24 hours. RESULTS: Of the 792 interventions, 308 were for infertility, ovarian cyst 153, 117 pelvic inflammatory disease, polycystic ovary 79. 62 adherence syndrome, 24 fibroids, ectopic pregnancy 13 11 ovarian cyst, dermoid cyst nine six hydrosalpinx. Complications occurred in 1.5% of cases, six of them omalgia four wound infection, one acute abdomen and one rectal laceration sigmoid. The average stay was 34 hours and the successful recovery. CONCLUSION: The lower incidence of complications, shorter hospital stay and lower morbidity r...

Objectives: To determine the most frequent findings in patients with diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy subjected to laparoscopic surgery. Design: Descriptive, retrospective, transversal study. Setting: Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Service, Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren. Participants: Patients with ectopic pregnancy diagnosis treated by laparoscopy. Interventions: Twenty-six patients with diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and considered suitable (hemodynamic stability and no contraindications for general anesthesia) were treated with laparoscopic surgery. We obtained information on age, hemodynamic status, ectopic pregnancy location, tumor size, presence of free fluid, type of surgery, conversion to laparotomy. Main outcome measures: Ectopic pregnancy characteristics and laparoscopy results. Results: Main age was 31,1 years. Isthmic and ampullar pregancies presented in the same pro...

Objectives: To determine correlation of hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy findings in infertile women. Design: Descriptive, retrospective, transversal study. Setting: Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal, Lima, Peru. Participants: Patients with infertility diagnosis who had both hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy. Interventions: We included 125 infertile patients attended from January 2005 through December 2006. Hysterosalpingographies were ambulatory and findings classified according to Mol et al as without obstruction, obstruction of one tube or bilateral obstruction. Laparoscopy and chromotubation with methylene blue were performed in the follicular phase, under general anesthesia. We considered adhesions, endometriosis, cysts and obstructions as abnormal findings. The laparoscopic intervention most frequently performed was adhesiolysis. We obtained both sensitivity and specifi...

Objectives: To determine efficacy of laparoscopic promontory fixation with mesh and titanium helicoidal fixation in the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse, and to describe self reported health status. Design: Descriptive, transversal study. Setting: Gynecology service, Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren, EsSalud, Lima, Peru. Participants: Patients with diagnosis of vaginal vault prolapse treated by laparoscopy. Interventions: Clinical charts of five of eight patients con diagnosis of vault prolapse repaired by laparoscopic promontory fixation with mesh and helicoidal titanium fixation from January 2008 through September 2008. Patients were examined two years after urgery and evaluated by analogical visual scale that included four health dimensions and possibility of three answer alternatives related to quality of life following surgery. Main outcome measures: Correction of vault prolaps...

Objective: To determine the diagnostic sensitivity of transvaginal ultrasonography and sonohysterography compared with hysteroscopy in patients with infertility. Design: Descriptive study. Setting: Procrear Fertility Clinic, Lima, Peru. Participants: Women with infertility. Methods: Between January and December 2 013 patients studied for infertility underwent surgical hysteroscopy; corresponding transvaginal ultrasound and hysterosonography prior to surgery were analyzed for most frequent diagnoses and sensitivity of the studies. Analysis was done using SPSS 15 software. Main outcome measures: Sensitivity of hysteroscopy, transvaginal ultrasound, and hysterosonography. Results: One hundred and eighteen surgical hysteroscopies were performed. Prior transvaginal ultrasound had sensitivity of 44.9% (53/118) for any abnormalities in regards to hysteroscopy, and sonohysterography had sensitiv...
