Gingival recession is defined as the displacement of the gingival margin apical to the Cementoenamel junction in one or more teeth. This mucogingival deformity can cause root hypersensitivity, poor esthetic appearance and cervical root caries. There are two main groups that can result in gingival recession, those derived from periodontal disease and those from traumatic origin. There are too some factors which are classified as predisposing and precipitant factors. Pathologically, gingival recessions derive from destruction of gingival connective tissue that reduces blood supply. Many procedures for surgical root coverage have been developed since introduction of laterally positioned pedicle flap, these include pedicle flaps, epithelialized free gingival grafts, connective tissue graft and guided tissue regeneration. The purpose of this article is to describe the clinical parameters and ...

The gingival recession treatment can be made surgical1y with a high predictability of success due to the great advance during the last ones of the mucogingival surgical techniques. The use of connective grafts in coverage of recessions has obtained high rates of success reason why these procedures are common within the modern periodontal surgical practice. Knowing that all patients do not accept the surgical treatment, many investigators have come studying the possibility of treating non-surgically the gingival recession by means of scale and root planing, polish and maintenance therapy showing promising results.

Impacted teeth are common and are often treated with orthodontic eruption, but unwanted periodontal problems can start with the treatment. The present article develops the principal periodontal considerations to know during orthodontic treatment and we report two clinical cases where the maxillary canines get an adequate amount of keratinized tissue following these concerns, preventing at this way the subsequent periodontal alterations.

One of the challenges of dentistry is oral rehabilitation in totally edentulous patients with atrophic jaws. This case reports a protocol for implant treatment performed in elderly patient with an edentulous jaws and advanced atrophy, in which an implant-retained implant-supported and consistent rehabilitation was conducted in a superior hybrid prosthesis supported by 6 implants and on lower denture retained by a horizontal bar attached to 4 implants, with a total follow-up of 1 year, without reporting complications. This case gives us evidence of an implant and rehabilitation protocol for patients with severe atrophy thus improving poor retention and stability posed by conventional prostheses in atrophic jaws, and show the benefits in terms of masticatory efficiency and better quality of life for patients with this diagnosis.

Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a biomaterial with a high platelets concentration and growth factors enhance tissue regeneration after application in surgical procedures, such as third molar extraction. Material and methods: The study was performed with 20 patients with indication for third bilateral lower molar extraction. The extraction were performed in the same surgical time and one of them the PRP gel was applied (randomly chose) and the other as control group. The postoperative evaluation was carried out until three and a half months, the parameters evaluated were: postoperative pain and wound and bone density using Cone Beam computed tomography. Results: Postoperative pain during the third day, first and second week was lower grade than sites of PRP application to the control group (p <0.05). The bone density measured by Cone Beam CT was higher at the sites of PRP a...

The mental nerve (MN) is one of the anatomical structures important to identify, preserve and avoid injure. The knowledge of the layout and anatomical variants of MN is imperative for the performance of surgical procedures involving the chin area. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine, the location and frequency of emergency hole of MN, accessories nerves, presence of loops and their relations with the alveolar ridge and the mandibular border, by observing prepared anatomical human corpses. Methodology: 31 mandibles of corpses were dissected. Results: It was found that the most frequent distance between the emergency MN with respect to the mandibular alveolar ridge was the range of 11 to 15.5 mm at 57.6% and 11 to 15.5 mm in 72.7% respectively. NM’s relationship with respect to the teeth was that 63.6% of the cases is at the same height of the PMI 2a, 18.2% had accessor...
