The aim of this study was to obtain a modified saline solution that allows a longer survival for the morphological study of Tetraphyllideans plerocercoids from the scallop Argopecten purpuratus. Two temperatures were evaluated: T-1, room temperature and T-2, constant temperature of 0.5 °C and five solutions: A = FSS (physiological saline solution – FSS – 0.85%), B = ¼ SW (sea water) + ¾ FSF, C = ½ SW + ½ FSS, D = ¾ SW + ¼ FSS, E = SW. One hundred live larvae freshly extracted from A. purpuratus gonads (10 per experimental group) were used for 13 days. The longest survival was observed in T-1 solutions B and C, where four plerocercoids remained alive until day 10 and three until day 12, respectively. Atherosclerosis starts early in life. The presence of risk factors like hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia and diabetes as well as obesity and metabolic syndrome accelerates its progress. These factors generate endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation, with early appearance of foamy cells, fatty streaks and atheromatous plaques. These plaques are vulnerable to erosion and rupture, the so called atherothrombotic phenomenon, leading to acute vascular events like acute coronary or cerebrovascular syndromes. Managing and treating the metabolic syndrome, early markers of cardiovascular risk, could slow down end organ aging and damage, probably without reduction of mortality but focusing on three fundamental aspects of early detection of subclinical atherothrombosis: prevention of cardiovascular events, protection of end organs, and improvement of quality of life.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer therapy by significantly improving long-term outcomes across multiple malignancies. Despite their benefits, ICIs can lead to immunerelated adverse events, including rare but severe cardiovascular toxicity such as myocarditis, which can be life-threatening. This comprehensive review aims to explore and discuss the mechanisms, clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and management strategies of ICI-induced myocarditis, emphasizing the need for early detection and timely intervention. As the use of ICIs continues to expand, further research is essential to fully elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize therapeutic strategies to mitigate this potentially fatal complication while maintaining the efficacy of cancer therapy.

Choosing Wisely is an initiative by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and ABIM Foundation to deter unnecessary medical treatments and procedures. Faced with the burden of modern technologies and treatments, it is crucial to identify practices lacking value in daily care. The Latin American and Caribbean Society (SLACOM), comprising cancer control experts, deems it vital to tailor this initiative for enhancing cancer care in the region. Through a modified DELPHI methodology involving two rounds of electronic questionnaires and a hybrid meeting to discuss key points of contention, ten essential recommendations were identified and prioritised to avoid harmful oncology procedures in our region.
