The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of the fruit of the orange, purple and white varieties of Opuntia ficus-indica was determined. The methods were: total phenols by Folin-Ciocalteu, flavonoids by aluminum chloride and antioxidant activity by DPPH, ABTS and FRAP; the anti-inflammatory activity in vitro by the red blood cell membrane stabilization method. The total phenolic content for the orange, white and purple varieties were 4.08, 3.87 and 3.69 mg GAE/g (p> 0.05). The flavonoid content was higher in the orange variety with 2.36 mg QE/g, followed by the purple and white varietywith 2.29 and 2.0 mg QE/g (p <0.05). In the free radical scavenger for DPPH the orange variety presents a higher activity of 6.20 μmol TE/g (p <0.05), for ABTS the purple variety presents 25.35 μmol ET/g (p<0.05) and for the ferric reducing activity potential...

Objective: To evaluate the gastroprotective effect of mucilage extracted from Aloe vera (A. vera) leaves in albino rats. Materials and methods: The technique used was observation, and the method was based on inducing gastric ulcers with 96 % ethanol. The animals were divided into seven treatment groups: (I) control group, which received normal saline (4 mL/kg); (II)group administered 96 % ethanol (1 mL/animal); (III) group treated with ranitidine (100 mg/kg); (IV) group administered sucralfate (50 mg/kg); and (V–VII) groups treated with mucilage at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg, respectively. Results: The mean volumes of gastric content in animals treated with mucilage at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg were statistically comparable to those in the ranitidine and sucralfate groups. The percentage efficiency in increasing gastric pH of the experimental animals was highest with ranitidine, fo...

Schinus molle is a medicinal plant used as an anti-inflammatory and for rheumatic pain in the traditional medicine of Peru. On the other hand, Aedes aegypti is the main vector of several tropical diseases and the transmitter of yellow fever, chikungunya, malaria, dengue, and Zika virus. In this study, the aim was to investigate the antioxidant activity in vitro and the insecticidal activity in silico, in the presence of the mosquito juvenile hormone-binding protein (mJHBP) from Aedes aegypti, of the essential oil from S. molle leaves. The volatile phytochemicals were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and the profile antioxidants were examined by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays. The evaluation in silico was carried out on mJHBP (PDB: 5V13) with an insecticidal approach. The results revealed that EO presented as the main volatile components to alpha-phellandrene (32.68%...
