University teaching quality depends on the workforce of the institution, both teachers and administrative staff. Considering this population has been little investigated, the present study aims to know the role of variables (sociodemographic and behavioral), burnout and work engagement on physical and mental health in a group of workers in a private university in Lima, Peru. In order to achieve this goal, mental and physical health (SF-36), burnout (MBI) and work engagement (UWES) were assessed in a group of 512 university personnel from Lima, Peru. Results showed that, even when they keep a good physical functioning, there`re high report psychosomatic complaint, low energy, pain problems, overweight and poor health behavior. No differences between sex, age or type of  work  were  found. The  variables that better predicted physical and mental health were hours of slee...

This study identifies coping styles and strategies used by 40 end-stage renal disease patients over 20 years old who receive treatment in a general hospital in Peru. The instruments applied were a personal sociodemographic questionnaire and the Coping Inventory (Carver, Scheier & Weintraub, 1989). Results showed that emotion focused coping were most frequently used followed by problem focused coping. Planning, acceptance and positive reinterpretation-growth coping strategies were more frequently used by these patients, whereas mental disengagement, suppression of competing activities and behavioral disengagement were the less frequently used coping strategies. Other differences between coping styles and strategies and sociodemographic and medical variables were analyzed.

The study analyses the psychometric properties of the Reasons for Living Inventory for Young Adults (RFL-YA) in a group of 368 university students from Lima, Peru, from both sexes and whose ages fluctuate between 16 and 30 years of age. The instruments used were the RFL-YA (Gutiérrez et al., 2002), Antonovsky’s Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC) (1993) and Hert’s Hope Scale (Arnau, Martínez, Niño de Guzmán, Herth & Yoshiyuki, 2010) in order to determine the convergent validity of the RFL-YA. Results show elevated reliability indexes. A 0.93 coefficient for the whole test and a 0.83 and 0.92 for each of the areas of the test. The factorial structure is adequate, and all 5 factors were reproduced with a 63.74% of explained variance. The correlation between the Sense of Coherence Scale and the Hope Scale resulted positive, high and significant, thus confirming the validity and relia...

The relations among stress, problems and coping styles among 123 psychology  students. in aprivate university in Lima, were analyzed. Four instruments were used: a) Demographic Sheet (Cassaretto, Oblitas & Valdez, 2000), b) Stress Response Questionnaire (Valdez, 1999), e) Co ping Inventory (Carver, Scheier & Weintraub, 1989), d) Problem Questionnaire (Seiffge Krenke, 1995). Variables as age, sex, job, stress responses, problems and coping styles were considered. The results showed that older people have higher stress levels, the problems related with future and self being the most stressful; finally, problem and emotion coping styles are related to lower levels of stress.

This study validates the Humor Style Questionnaire in a group of 315 university students of both genders from Lima, Peru, with an average age of 19,7. The Humor Style Questionnaire (HSQ) by Martin, Puhlik-Doris, Larsen, Gray & Weir (2003), the Psychological Well-Being Scale (BIEPS-A) by Casullo (2002) and the Hope Scale by Herth (1991) were used. After the neutralization of four items, results show reliability coefficients between 0,64 to 0,78 and a factorial structure confirming the existence of four factors (42,94% of the total variance). Results show positive associations between psychological well-being and hope with affiliation and self-enhancing styles, and negative associations between aggression and self-defeating humor. Results support the convergence validity and the construct of the scale.

Background: While in college, students face specific situations that might be stressful. To recognize such experience, this research proposes the term academic stress, which causes symptoms that may affect students’ health. Objective: To describe the prevalence of academic stress and its components, and to analyze the role of sociodemographic, academic and behavioral variables in the dimensions of stress. Method: The study population accounted for 1,801 college students from six Peruvian cities, out of which 57.7% were women aged between 18 and 54 (M = 20.79, SD = 2.69). The SISCO Inventory of Academic Stress and the Lifestyle Questionnaire for Young College Students – Peru (CEVJU – Peru) were administered. Results: Eighty-three percent (83%) of the students indicated having experienced academic stress during the semester: mostly medium and medium-high stress levels. Multiple linea...

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound global impact. Within this context, the well-being of one of the most vulnerable groups, older adults, deserves significant attention. Hence, this study aimed to analyzed the relationships between Fear of COVID-19, Spirituality, and Well-Being of a sample of 169 older adults from Lima during the first year of the pandemic and, if significant relationships were found, evaluate what the variables had most impact in the well-being of this group. Previously, differences in these variables were analyzed according to reported socio-demographic and health characteristics. In order to measure Well-being, the Flourishing, SPANE-P and SPANE-N scales were used (Diener et al., 2010), for Fear of COVID-19 the FCV-19S (Ahorsu et al., 2022) and for Spirituality the SBI-15R (Holland et al., 1998). The results showed significant relationships between Fear o...

The goal is to adapt and analyze the psychometric properties of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) in workers of the national domestic violence helpline (Peru). Two measurements were taken in the same population (n=160). Translation-back translation was applied. Internal consistency was assessed with Cronbach’s alpha, corrected Item-Total Correlation and omega coefficient. Test-retest was performed in the second measurement. Convergent validity was examined with Pearson correlations with the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Fear of Covid-19 Scale. Confirmatory Factor Analysis confirmed that the three-correlated factor model has the best fit. Regarding reliability, adequate coefficients were found (alpha: >.82, omega: >.91 and intraclass correlation: > .66). The CBI scales are correlated with the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, the Per...
