This article discusses the unique experiences and methods of independent examination of the level of communicative (specifically receptive and productive) English language skills of the first year undergraduate students studying English as the first foreign language in a Russian university, who previously passed the Unified State Exam (USE) in English. The results analyzed came from the tests the students took at the beginning of their first academic year. This study attempts to lay the foundations for the transition to level-oriented learning or to introduce differentiation in groups where students’ levels range widely – from A1 to C1. The assessment of the English language proficiency of students studying Philology, Linguistics, Foreign Regional Studies, and Pedagogy was carried out in the format the B2 First Cambridge exam (FCE). The results of the assessment were used to analyze ...

The operation of many batch processes involves critical characteristics that follow specific patterns over time. Sometimes the batch time is long enough that the operator can take corrective actions within it. This paper explores how to develop appropriate monitoring procedures for such situations within the context of a shrimp farming process. It uses a Gompetz non-linear model to describe the basic shrimp growth and defines the control limits through the prediction band around the estimated model. It proposes a method to generate a control chart soon enough within the batch so management can prioritize which ponds require the most attention. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

The study was carried out with Creole sheep in flocks from the communities of Cruzpata and Siusay, both in the Lambrama district, Apurímac, Peru. The study aimed to characterize its productive capacity for meat and wool. Samples were taken from 60 sheep from two flocks to determine live weight, carcass weight, carcass yield, fleece weight and lock length. In addition, using 187 sheep from six flocks from the same area, samples of rib wool (10 g) were taken for analysis using OFDA 2000 equipment. The phenotype of the Creole sheep presents an angular body covered with fleece of various colours; bare face, belly and long legs, which grazes the puna, in an extensive system and without technical support from the State. Live weight, carcass weight and carcass yield are low, mainly affected by age, with variations like what occurs in other places in the mountains; Measurements of fleece weight...

Objective: philosophical reflection problems of the frontiers of science, knowledge and creativity in the modern intercultural integration; rationale for new interpretations and understanding of the concept "border" providing an integrative model for science and culture, which, in turn, implies the unacceptability of Orthodox approaches, and rigid demarcation between different spheres of cultural production. This explains the need to develop a "rational-reflexive culture" that meets the new demands of modern society. Research procedure and methods: the theoretical and methodological research of the work is based on the works of classics of Western and domestic philosophical, cultural, historical, and other thought in the field of studying the essence of social and cognitive phenomena; classical and non-classical methodological paradigms of understanding the concept of "borders" in ontolo...

This work describes the aggregation process and explains the optical behavior of graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) in different solvents using molecular dynamics, DFT, and experimental observations. The optical behavior of electrochemically synthesized GOQDs in different solvents was analyzed by UV–Vis spectroscopy, and dependence between the spectra and the solvents (water, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, toluene, and n-hexane) was found. Molecular dynamics methods were used to determine that the local structure of the solvent molecules and the nature of intermolecular forces between GOQDs dominate their aggregation state and their optical properties in each solvent. These computational studies based on liquid-liquid systems provide a fast and straightforward approach to develop synthesis and purification methods that allow tailored advanced optical properties of GOQDs. © 2021 Elsevi...

In this work, the optical and electronic properties of a TiO2/graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) composite were studied by experimental and computational methods. The experimental procedures were made on TiO2 and GOQDs nanoparticles synthesized by a sol-gel method and one-pot electrochemical carbonization, respectively. The characterization of these materials and the TiO2/GOQDs composite was made using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron microscopy (XPS), FT-IR spectroscopy, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The experimental measurements of the optical properties of these materials by UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy indicate that the addition of GOQDs promotes the expansion of the radiation absorption of TiO2 towards the visible range. Similarly, photoelectrochemical tests performed to determine the electronic properties ...

The authors conduct a comparative analysis of the features and content of socio-pedagogical work with gifted schoolchildren in the educational space of Russia and Kazakhstan. The purpose of our study: to study and present the comparative experience of socio-pedagogical work with gifted children in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. Collection of empirical data was carried out by questionnaire survey of teachers of general educational organizations of the Russian Federation (n=225) and educational organizations of Kazakhstan (n=200). The survey of teachers and specialists of educational organizations was conducted in 2018 and 2019.The authors have studied the comparative experience of organizing socio-pedagogical work with gifted schoolchildren in Russia and Kazakhstan. The results allow us to see common and specific in the work with gifted children in the Russian Federation and the f...

Introduction: Health educators and general workers in the sector are among the people vulnerable to stress and burnout Objective: To discuss, based on the scientific literature, burnout levels and coping strategies in higher education professors. Methods: Systematic review of articles published between 2010 and 2018 in the databases EBSCO host, SCIELO, ERIC, SCIENCE DIRECT, SCOPUS, REDALYC, DOAJ, and LILACS. In the search strategy, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) flowchart was used. Eighteen articles (in Spanish, Portuguese, and English) were reviewed after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Conclusions: It is not clear if burnout exists in higher education professors. High levels of exhaustion and depersonalization are slightly associated with high work commitment. Job stress and high level of exhaustion are associated with less...

The need for e-learning in modern Russia is caused by the rapid development of informatization, digitalization, information and communication technologies, the creation of a global environment for mutual integration of cultures and disciplines, as well as the formation of open continuous education, which is the basis of a post-industrial (information) society. These processes stimulate an active search for creative educational practices that meet the requirements of the information society. A modern specialist must have a certain amount of knowledge that will allow him to learn constantly, improve his skills and abilities, self-develop and self-actualize in order to keep up with the time of changes in the information society. In the framework of the modern educational paradigm, the student is considered as a subject of knowledge, not an object of pedagogical influence. In the early – m...

Understanding the changes of a mineral during ore processing is of capital importance for the development of strategies aimed at increasing the efficiency of metal extraction. This task is often difficult due to the variability of the ore in terms of composition, mineralogy and texture. In particular, surface processes such as metal re-adsorption (preg-robbing) on specific minerals are difficult to evaluate, even though they may be of importance as the re-adsorbed material can be blocking the valuable mineral and negatively affect the extraction process. Here, we show a simple yet powerful approach, through which surface processes in individual minerals are identified by combining polarization microscopy (MP) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Taking as an example a silver-containing polymetallic sulfide ore from the Peruvian central Andes (pyrite-based with small amounts of gal...
