La identificación y los tratamientos oportunos de la PIC elevada son piedras angulares del tratamiento de los pacientes con enfermedades neurocríticas. Actualmente el Gold estándar para la medición de la PIC son los medios invasivos, es así que la colocación de un catéter ya sea interventricular y/o parenquimatoso se considera como Gold estándar para la medición de la PIC y dar un mejor manejo adecuado en pacientes neurocriticos, sin embargo, no puede aplicarse en todos los pacientes neurocriticos y/o implementarse en diferentes escenarios. El neuromonitoreo en el paciente neurocritico ya sea por tomografía, resonancia implican la movilización del paciente además son poco prácticas para la valoración periódica. Es así que dentro de los exámenes para la exploración neurológica las mediciones de la DVNO se han detallado como un método para inferir la PIC de manera dinámica y no invasiva. de forma rutinaria en UCI.
