Objetivos específicos incluyeron analizar el nivel de cumplimiento, describir los antecedentes de falta de adherencia, evaluar la relación médico-paciente, comprender las creencias de los pacientes y describir el uso de estrategias para recordar la toma del tratamiento. Se utilizaron métodos cuantitativos, como un cuestionario estructurado, para evaluar los niveles de cumplimiento, mientras que se emplearon otras herramientas, como entrevistas semiestructuradas, para explorar los factores que influyen en el cumplimiento. El estudio involucró a 117 pacientes, con hasta 30 encuestas realizadas por día. Los resultados mostraron que el 18% presentan un cumplimiento bajo, el 34% un cumplimiento insuficiente, el 22% demostró un cumplimiento adecuado y el 26% mostró un cumplimiento estricto. Uno de los principales problemas identificados fue la falta de cumplimiento al seguir la dosis y frecuencia de los medicamentos recetados. Estos resultados indicaron un nivel bajo de cumplimiento del tratamiento antirretroviral en pacientes con VIH/SIDA en el Hospital "José Alfredo Mendoza Olavarría", lo que sugiere que muchos pacientes enfrentan dificultades para seguir adecuadamente su régimen de medicación. Esta falta de cumplimiento puede comprometer la efectividad del tratamiento y aumentar el riesgo de progresión de la enfermedad.
