Sumario:The main objective of this research is to find out the association between the perceived of parenting styles and empathy in students from 13 to 16 years old from a school in Metropolitan Lima. Likewise, it seeks to identify the correlation between the dimensions of the parenting style: commitment, behavioral control and psychological autonomy with empathy. For this, 202 students from a private school in Metropolitan Lima were evaluated with the Interpersonal Reactivity Inventory (IRI) adapted by García et al (2011) and the Steinberg Scale of parenting styles, adapted by Merino and Ardnt (2004). As results, it was found that the predominant parenting style was the Authoritative Style and the most frequent level of empathy was the low level. In addition, a low association was found between the variables, as well as a low correlation between the dimensions of parenting styles and empathy, a low association was found between both variables according to sex.
