ASOCIACIÓN ENTRE LA AUTOPERCEPCIÓN DE NECESIDAD DE TRATAMIENTO ORTODÓNTICO Y EL TIPO DE MALOCLUSIONES EN ESCOLARES DE 12 AÑOS.

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la relación entre la autopercepción de la necesidad de tratamiento ortodóntico y prevalencia de maloclusiones en escolares de 12 años en San Blas – Cuenca en el año 2016.  El presente estudio de enfoque cuantitativo y diseño transversal recogió la información de 241 fichas registradas en el estudio epidemiológico de salud bucal para la parroquia de San Blas de la ciudad de Cuenca Ecuador,  la obtención de estas fichas se logró a través del programa EPI INFO versión 7.2, de acceso libre, la prevalencia de maloclusiones se determinó mediante parámetros clínicos y la necesidad de tratamiento ortodóntico mediante el componente estético (CE) del  Índice de Necesidad de tratamiento de Ortodoncia (INTO). La prevalencia de maloclusión fue de 91%; en relación a la normoclusión que representó un 9%. En la autopercepción de necesidad de tratamiento la población indicó en su mayoría no requerir tratamiento con un 85% y de si requerirlo un 15%. No existió una correspondencia entre la prevalencia de maloclusiones y la autopercepción estética de los escolares, el sexo no es un factor determinante porque la respuesta prevalece en los dos géneros sin discriminación.Palabras clave: Autopercepción, terapéutica, ortodoncia, maloclusiones. The present study of quantitative approach and cross-sectional design collected the information of 241 records registered in the epidemiological study of oral health for the parish of San Blas of the city of Cuenca Ecuador, the obtaining of these cards was achieved through the program EPI INFO version 7.2, of free access, the prevalence of malocclusions was determined by parameters and the need for orthodontic treatment through the aesthetic component (CE) of the Orthodontic Treatment Necessity Index (INTO). The prevalence of malocclusion was 91%; in relation to the normocclusion that represented 9%. In the self-perception of the need for treatment, the majority of the population indicated that they did not require treatment with 85% and that 15% required it. There was no correspondence between the prevalence of malocclusions and the aesthetic self-perception of schoolchildren, sex is not a determining factor because the response prevails in both genders without discrimination.Key words: Self-perception, therapeutics, orthodontics, malocclusion.
