Objective: To validate an explanatory model of cognitive functioning in older adults, based on inhibitory control, working memory and processing speed. Method: Explanatory-correlational design. 128 people between 60 and 85 years of age were evaluated with working memory and processing speed tests of the WAIS-IV intelligence scale, Stroop Test and Neuropsi. Results: Two models of structural equation analysis were applied. In model 1, with the total sample, inhibitory control better explains the cognitive functioning in adults aged 60 to 85 years (β=0.22; p<0.538). Model 2, which included age as a control variable, divided the sample into two age groups, and found that processing speed best predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 60-70 years (β=2.329; p=0.030). but no variable predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 71 to 85 years. The second model showed better fitting ...

Many studies suggest that patients with deficit schizophrenia exhibit a more severe functional and neurocognitive impairment than those with non-deficit schizophrenia. However, there are few studies on this topic in Latin America. Objective: To examine the differences in functioning and neurocognitive impairment between patients with and without deficit schizophrenia, and to analyze the validity of the bifactorial structure of negative symptoms in a sample of Peruvian patients. Methods: A total of 53 Peruvian patients with schizophrenia were recruited. The Spanish version of the Schedule for the Deficit Syndrome (SDS) was used to diagnose the syndrome under study. The Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) was employed to assess global functioning, and the Screen for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry (SCIP), to evaluate neurocognitive functioning. Results: The prevalence of deficit sc...

The objective of the study was to evaluate the incidence of the application of trigonometric functions in a heuristic mode, on the cognitive development of adolescents from Cauri. In this sense, the autonomous variable was applied to the dependent variable to generate an effect of improvement in cognitive development. The study had an explanatory level, basic type and quasi-experimental design. The population was made up of 335 young people from Cauri, from which a non-random sample of 46 was selected, who were grouped as follows: 20 in the experimental group and 26 in the control group. The data were collected through three evaluative written tests, each with 10 propositions to develop. The data obtained were processed in Microsoft Excel, which allowed the calculation of the statistics corresponding to the descriptive and inferential analysis. The results showed that the test T value is...

In this paper, the processes expressed with verbs of movement in Chanka Quechua, from the Ayacucho area, are briefly presented. Since Quechua is an agglutinative language, the aim of this paper is to analyze the function of suffixes from the semantic point of view. For this purpose, our theoretical framework is based on the contribution of cognitive semantics and on the relationship between semantics and grammar proposed by Moreno Cabrera (2003). The results of this work aim to classify and determine how the suffixes -man, -manta, -kama and -ta act in sentence constructions of movement.

This article proposes through the theoretical position of a branch of cognitivism: cognitive grammar, the cognitive strategy that the human being executes when using the language. The objective of the study is to logically graph the cognitive processes in the function of thinking-meaning, of expressing oneself linguistically. The application of the cognitive strategy of the use of language is made effective in the linguistic pragmatics of the sociolect of the Sars CoV-2 pandemic. The research methodology is qualitative of the discourse analysis type. The results show the cognitive nature of linguistic innovations and show the executive process in the thinking-meaning of the statements. The main conclusion is that the linguistic-cognitive analysis of the proposed discourse graphs and shows the cognitive condition of the language. It is recommended to apply the analysis model in the interp...

The study of Neuroscience and The seven Learnings introduce Neuroscience as the new paradigm that enables to analyze and explain the intelligent human behavior. The discoveries found in this field have been shown not only in the theory but in the pedagogical practice as well. In the first case, one of the most recent theories about intelligent behavior has been conceived from the perspective of neuroscience (science that studies HUMAN BRAIN). (Beauport and Diaz, 1994) This study has given more relevance to the relation between the function of the brain and human behavior as well as the conditions that lead to an efficient teaching – learning process. In this context, we introduce The seven Learnings, described by Edgar Morin that state central problems which have been ignored and that are necessary in order to reach a successful teachinglearning process in this century. These seven Lea...

This article is shown as an integrated axis which refers directly to the action of strategies in processing the information in the human brain. The objective of this article is to study the achievements of learning strategies influence over the information process, to know the learning process of people in general and to design intervention techniques in order to improve the information process. Therefore, by applying the correct strategies, we will improve any learning process in many ways. From our perspective, to act strategically before any teaching- learning activity involves to make consciously the right decisions in order to regulate the conditions that define the learning process and to reach determined objectives. To teach strategies to students implies to teach them to decide consciously all actions they will perform and to modify them in order to reach determined goals. Result...

Short stature is a sign of chronic malnutrition. It occurs in individuals who usually live in poverty, such as the case of rural communities and indigenous people of Mexico (Muñoz & Chávez, 2007). This condition is detrimental for neuropsychological development and is associated with the presence of neurological soft signs. Therefore, the purpose of this cross-sectional field study was to explore whether a group of indigenous Mazahua children with early malnutrition show neurological soft signs. The study was conducted in two rural communities at the Mazahua region in the State of Mexico. The participants were 36 children aged 6 to 10 with severe malnutrition andanemia. They were selected using a non-probabilistic intentional quota sampling. They were assessed with the Neurological Soft Signs Scale (SNB-MX) proposed by Salvador-Cruz et al. (2018). Regardless of the age, the results...

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory, autoimmune and neurodegenerative central nervous system disease characterized by motor and sensitive function loss; it is considered to be one of the principal causes of disability in young adults. Recently, cognitive impairment has gain considerable attention because it is a frequent symptom that causes disability. Cognitive impairment it is present in 40 to 65% of patients and affects speed of information processing, complex attention, working memory, visual and verbal memory, verbal fluency and executive functions. It may be present in radiologically isolated syndrome, clinically isolated syndrome and in the different stages of the disease; it is responsible for patient’s dependence and for the difficulties to maintain or get an employment. Cognitive impairment is associated to thalamic atrophy and a correlation with brain atrophy and cerebral ...

Social cognition is a neurodynamic process that restructures and regulates a person’s social behavior in function of time and space. In recent years, this construct has taken relevance regarding neuropsychological evaluations since it lays the foundations for the approach and forecast of a successful social adaptation in people with autistic condition. This article explores the life of Saya, a three year and ten months old child, whom reflects a slight autist condition. As the main study tool a neuropsychological evaluation was carried out and focused on psychobiology. This evaluation included the social cognition, which analyzes four different systems: social perception, socioaffective, mental attribution and inferential and executive, in order to start her therapeutic process.

Loneliness and social isolation are factors that increasingly affect many people around the world, and evidence suggests that they are related to cognitive processes deterioration. This article aims to review the available information on the effect of loneliness and social isolation on the cognition of middle-aged adults. A comprehensive structured search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and EBSCO databases. In the first instance, the results of the databases were imported to the Mendeley reference manager, where duplicates were eliminated, to later extract articles relevant to the topic according to the title and abstract. The inclusion criteria included only articles published in English, conducted in humans, and published within the last ten years (2012-2022). Persistent loneliness was found to be associated with lower cognitive scores and reduced volumes in the tempora...

Intelligence is a construct of notable impact in our sociocultural context, related to a wide range of conceptual and operational definitions which originate positions that highlights cognitive and abstract elements and emotional and social skills, as well was perspectives that are focused on processes underlying the intelligent performance, such as in the case of executive functions (EFs), which are configured as cognitive processes that make it possible the self-regulation (Miyake & Friedman, 2012). Similarly, there are approaches that give intelligence a relevant and predictive role of school performance, an aspect strengthened by the psychometric perspective, where the concept of intelligence has been closely linked to learning. In this line, we also find the classical perspective of crystallized Intelligence of Cattell (1943), which refers to the knowledge acquired through educa...

The relationship between executive functions (EF), creative personality, and academic performance in Argentine university students was examined. A total of 248 students (M = 22.97 years, SD = 4.43) from various Argentine provinces participated. The Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, the Creative Behavior Scale (ECC), and the Creative Personality Scale (EPC) were used, along with academic performance data and sociodemographic information. Data were collected online through Google Forms and analyzed using Spearman correlations and mediation analysis with robust Maximum Likelihood estimator and Bootstrap. Cognitive flexibility exhibited the most robust correlation with grade point average (r = .281, p < .001), followed by working memory difficulties (r = -.234, p < .001). Creative personality correlated positively with grade point average (...
