This paper examines inequality in educational outcomes in Peru through a spatial approach. Cluster analysis and spatial statistics were applied for the years 2007 and 2016. The results, based on the selected educational indicators, show that the country’s departments are grouped into at least four clusters, with little variation over time. In other words, departments with strong or weak performance in both the quality and quantity of education tend to remain largely unchanged from one year to the next. Although the data reflect realities prior to the pandemic, the findings provide a useful foundation for future research on progress in reducing educational inequality. In this context, sectoral policy should be implemented in ways that promote vertical equity and prioritize the regionalized and decentralized allocation of resources.

Perceiving, thinking and understanding space on its different scales are fundamental activities to approach the knowledge inherent to architecture, from its dimensions: phenomenal (material products-objects), epistemic (concepts, theories and pedagogies-ideas) and ontological (social sense and modes of coexistence and reproduction-processes), respectively. Translating this to the management of architecture as an academic discipline entails an exercise in comprehensive, multiple and interdisciplinary pedagogy, where it is clearly transmitted that beyond forms and the aesthetic sense there are daily urgencies from people and their aspirations for comfort, coexistence and good living. That is why the work undertaken by an architect committed to classrooms, learning and students is praised here: Abel Hurtado and his proposals full of sensitivity, honesty and wisdom, referring to spatial stre...

Abstract: This article aims to conduct a critical review of the concept of generations from a sociological perspective to elucidate its analytical potential. To this end, firstly, the subject is introduced, and the ambiguities inherent in the concept, particularly regarding its temporal and spatial extension, are identified. Secondly, an exploration is proposed into the various interpretations of its use, starting with the studies of Karl Mannheim and subsequently delving into contemporary receptions utilizing theoretical tools derived from Pierre Bourdieu. From this exploration, the utility of understanding generations within specific social spaces is derived. Hence, thirdly, its intersection with notions of field (from Bourdieu himself) and traditions (from Raymond Williams) is addressed, gauging its application in the peculiarities of the political field and narratives within traditio...

There is an infinite range of cultures, peoples, tribes, cultural areas, ethnicities and ethnicities, and this anthropological reality has raised humanity, since the beginning of time, the problem of accepting ourselves as different. A cultural area is a spatial entity within which societies show some similarity or a number of common significant aspects. American anthropology has therefore tried to establish a kind of "maps" on the distribution of traits, groups of traits or cultural complexes in order to determine the centers of cultural diffusion and its route (Cf. Wissler C., 1926; Kroeber H.L., 1939).

The book Local Experiences of Mining in Peru: Social and Spatial Transformations in the Andes shows us how experiences and representations are building and rebuilding mining sites. For this, the author incorporates us into the debates on the institutional, political, economic or cultural changes that contemporary corporate mining has promoted in Andean localities.

Current data from the site of Cerro Lampay (an architectural compound of the Late Archaic Period) provide new insights on the architectural design that characterizes the early complex societies of the north central coast. Excavations at this site have provided a detailed record of the major traits that can be found in a typical architectural compound that correspond to the Late Archaic Period in this region. The analysis of the spatial structure and the sensorial experience of the architecture of Cerro Lampay suggest a scenario of a human community in which leaderships were emerging whereas dual principles of social organization were also appearing. The results of these analyses are compared with recent finds on other neighboring sites such as Caral, in order to propose new perspectives to understand the rise of social complexity in the Central Andes.

At the beginning of 2019, I received a cordial invitation from the Allpanchis editorial team to coordinate a dossier dedicated to the study of the American clergy. In defining this academic exercise, I determined that it was vital to make visible the ecclesiastical agents and their sociopolitical intermediaries, as well as the historical roles they fulfilled at different times in American history. To achieve this goal, it was vital not only to limit ourselves to a specific spatiality or temporality —the viceroyalty—, but also to consider the articulation of historical periods based on clerical agency. This is how the dossier that I have the honor to present exhibits research on the study of the American clergy in a long-term perspective that goes from the 16th century to the dawn of the 20th century, and that demonstrates the agency, accommodation, mediation , the links and the leadi...

Children’s understanding of mental states and their temporal and spatial perspective-taking abilities change substantially during early childhood. It has been proposed that these abilities converge on common mechanisms based on self-projection. Also, remembering and prospection are thought to jointly support human capacity for mental time travel. This study explores the behavioral congruence of perspective-taking abilities by assessing episodic memory, episodic future thinking, theory of mind, and visual perspective-taking in 85 children aged four to six in Uruguay. We found no overall associations, except for theory of mind (false beliefs) and episodic future thinking. Results are discussed in the light of conceptual implications of the tasks, while we argue that enhancing equivalence in task design is essential for advancing future research.

The permanent and each time fastest scientific innovations, as well as technological and telecommunications in the industrialized countries, irreversible influence the productive patterns of the underdeveloped countries. This pushes them to insert themselves and to include withinthis new world order that brings the globalization. These changes are dramatic in countries like ours, whose productive structure is still traditional. The transformation of these structurescomes together with the increment of social inequalities and therefore territorial expressed in hierarchies. However, this will depend on the adaptability capacity of each social group to the new economic context.Peru is not foreign to this type of harbor system that generates a series of dynamics in the role of harbor cities, enhancing them as spatial logistics at global level, where the public and private enterprises’ inte...

I present in this article the results of survey and mapping at sites with early monumental architecture in the Middle Fortaleza Valley. Architecture provisionally assigned to the Late Archaic period is analyzed, and some hypotheses on its development are proposed. The Fortaleza sites are then compared with other ones throughout the North Central Coast. I propose that the architectural complexes in this region seem to correspond to local-range sociopolitical entities, instead of large, regional polities. Finally, I conclude with some thoughts on new theoretical perspectives to understand the origins and development of such entities.
