The transversality of environmental law as a foundation against the criminalization of social protests, means that environmental law as a human right is characterized by its transversality, that is, that its values and principles radiate throughout our national legal system with the purpose of That man, as the supreme goal of society and the State, achieves and enjoys his fundamental right to sustainable development to meet his basic needs, therefore, it is a right for him to protect every citizen -when he is at risk or was violated-, through social protest, understood as constitutional law, when the government does not respond to its claims. The intersection between the transversality of environmental law and the criminalization of social protests is a complex context to address it because its causes lie not only in neoliberalism and the imposition of economic projects but also in the w...

Walking through the streets of the center of Santiago de Chile after the social revolt of October 2019, one can see the mural interventions that commemorate and denounce state violence, confronting the government's silence and censorship on the human rights violations during those months. Among these, it is not uncommon to see urban art that refers to consumer culture, especially Japanese animation series (anime) and manga (Japanese comics) made by organizations such as Otaku Antifascista or Tatakae Chile. However, the phenomenon draws attention because it is replicated not only in the context of the protest in Chile but also in countries like Peru and Bolivia, where anime fans, widely known as otakus, build a new language of social protest. This essay reflects on this articulation, evaluating the spatial displacement of the otaku referent from its consumption in private (closed) spaces ...

Between 2010 and 2015, the most important protest cycle in the history of Colombia takes place, organized by leftist social organizations. At the same time, the Polo Democrático Alternativo, the main leftist party, experiences an electoral decline and the fragmentation of its internal tendencies. Consequently, the Colombian left fails to translate the discontent of social protest into electoral results. This article analyzes the disagreement between protests and elections, arguing that it is a result, on the one hand, of structural constraints characteristic of a political system in which electoral politics is not separated from violence and, on the other hand, the inability of the left to generate frameworks of collective action capable of challenging voters beyond the identities that exclude their different tendencies.

The aim of this article is to analyses the theory of non-executive co-authorship and its viability as a criminal charge for leaders of social protests for crimes originating in this context. For this, a review of national and international jurisprudence and doctrine on the theory of non-executive co-authorship is carried out in order to show what concept of this figure is compatible with the traditional foundations of co-authorship. This, to then show when its application is possible, considering its dogmatic approaches and a human rights approach, in protest. In this regard, it is argued that it can only be charged under this title if there is sufficient evidence that shows that the social leader, under a common plan, participated in an essential and remote way in the executive phase of the attributed crime.

This article analyzes how Colombian writer Fernando Vallejo uses his novel La rambla paralela (2002) to expose his literary suicide (the death of his novelistic alter ego and his desire to stop writing altogether) as a form of protest towards the nonsensical nature of reality, which is frequently evidenced in Colombian society. To this end, the first section describes the role that suicide has had in Western thought and literature. Afterwards, the second section explains the reasons behind Vallejo’s critical stance in his works. Finally, the third and main section analyzes how Vallejo kills his narrative in his novel and how this act serves as the author’s most radical protest against contemporary reality.

Considering online social media’s importance in the Arab Spring, this study is a preliminary exploration of the spread of narratives via new media technologies. Via a textual analysis of Facebook comments and traditional news media stories during the 2011 Egyptian uprisings, this study uses the concept of “memes” to move beyond dominant social movement paradigms and suggest that the telling and re-telling, both online and offline, of the principal narrative of a “Facebook revolution” helped involve people in the protests.

The strength of the indigenous movement in Ecuador has proven itself, since the change of century, to be capable of shaping national politics through social pressure and mobilization. From massive protests that toppled presidents, to candidates strategically aligning with CONAIE, the indigenous movement has been consolidated as a central political actor in Ecuador. Nonetheless, the trajectory of its political stances and actions has not been stable, and this variation seems to be explained by the movement’s relationship vis-a-vis the government in office. The present article will briefly go over the governments of Gutiérrez, Correa and Moreno (up to 2019) to establish theoretical frameworks in which the demands of the indigenous movement can be classified, to be able to identify the reasoning behind the different courses of action and incentives for mobilization. Particularly, the ana...

To this end, the aspects of the ethics of assightetic Protestantism that the author indicates as the cause of the development of capitalism have been analyzed, and demonstrates how this economic system remains in place due to the continuity of ethics in people. Second, criticism from economists Jeffrey Sachs and Ha-Joon Chang has been answered to Weber's thesis when they show how capitalism has developed faster in Catholic than Protestant countries.

Localment...
