In manufacturing processes, there are conditions that continually impact decision-making among when choosing among alternatives; the selection is usually influenced by critical aspects such as quality, productivity, costs and customer feedback, among others. This article analyzes different adhesives for the process of gluing parts for sports shoes in a company located in the city of Purisima del Rincon in Guanajuato, México. The analysis employs statistical engineering tools and an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology. The case studied deals with an issue with gluing parts. The glue currently employed is of good quality but has drawbacks such as its high cost and thickness, which leads to a time-consuming manual application, affecting productivity. We propose and apply an AHP model with input information obtained by means of industrial experimentation in order to select the best...

Since we are in a society where knowledge is commoditized, making decisions only being the process through which a need for a decision is identified, it is not sufficient to establish alternatives, analyze them and choose one of them, and implement it to finally assess the results. Should be supplemented with a management by objectives that constitutes a form of conduct and organization of the government to base its conception in anticipating and preparing early achievements and the demarcation and allocation of responsibilities. So that decision making is a tool to make the best decisions on behalf of the company, affecting management, identifying the objectives that will lead to achieving competitive advantage and market success. The problem of this research focuses on the correlation of the decision-making and management by objectives in the Peruvian company; looking to strengthen pol...

The decision-making process is a key element within many fields. Rationality is a theoretical framework to understand that social and economic behavior which contributes to better decisional processes. This role of rationality generates expectations from the stakeholders of the decisional process, one of which is refers to the need of including ethical criteria within the decisional process itself. This essay explores both the concept of rationality, as well as its types, in order to evaluate the extent to which ethical criteria should be part of said process. In doing this, the concepts of minimal instrumental rationality and ethics are analyzed, setting the stage for a discussion of common fields and roles in relation to both available knowledge before the decision-making, and reasoning, derived actions, and consequences. This essay concludes that rationality and ethics share much duri...

Postmodernity has crossed the boundaries of art and philosophy very quickly, and by challenging the philosophical foundations of the social sciences, it has a great influence on mastering the theorizing of these fields. Consequently, the science of policymaking in general, and theories of policymaking in particular, have not remained immune to postmodern doctrines. Having said this, the objective of this essay is the analysis and examination of the models of explanation of the policy formulation process based on an approach of the postmodern paradigm. To this end, the issues of rationality in postmodernism, rationality in policymaking, and approaches that follow various types of rationality are discussed. The main models for explaining the policy-making process that have drawn much attention from thinkers are outlined. Studies suggest that notions such as objectivity criticism, escaping ...

For decades, synthetic chemists have sought to make industrial-scale catalysts as efficient and exceptionally selective as enzymes are in biological systems but, unfortunately, this task has proven evasive. Efforts then focused on making enzymes useful for the industry, and protein engineering had the task of adapting natural enzymes to work in conditions of industrial-scale processes. The approach called directed evolution is one of the models used to carry this out. Inspired by the natural evolution of species, this model proposes to evolve enzymes in an accelerated way, within the laboratory, in such a way that the manipulated enzyme exhibits the properties desired for its industrial application. Directed evolution is responsible, for example, for the industrial-scale production of enzymes included in household detergents and of the enzymes used by the pharmaceutical industry for the ...

background: Human decisions are partially rational. In medicine, critical scenarios make decide-making (DM) difficult. In this review, we propose the "4E" approach to improve the DM of interventions. The "4E" approach includes decisions: "effectual" when interventions have been tested in controlled settings, "effective" when interventions have been tested in uncontrolled or pragmatic clinical settings, "efficient" when the benefits of a new intervention are evaluated by its costs, and decisions that promote "equity" when these interventions are recommended according to the needs of the patient, avoiding barriers. Using this approach could improve DM in clinical practice, but it is not enough to guarantee its incorporation and use. It is also essential to promote the organizational, institutional, and political dynamics of health systems that promote evidence's critical use to make decisi...

Purpose: This paper aims to provide empirical evidence for using the prospect theory (PT) basic assumptions in the Argentine context. Mainly, this study analysed the financial decision-making process in students of the economic-administrative academic area of two universities, one public and one private, in Córdoba. Design/methodology/approach. The analysis methodology included (1) the descriptive statistical analysis to identify the presence of the certainty, reflection and isolation effects; (2) the construction of a set of indicators on the application of the PT; (3) the chi-squared independence test, to determine if the decisions made are independent of the degree course taken; (4) the non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis test, to determine if the decisions made by individuals vary according to the semesters taken or students' levels of progress; and (5) the non-parametric Mann–Whitney...

Latin American scholars, who have studied the Andean subregional integration process, viewed the Andean Community as a less effective attempt to follow the European Union model and pointed to its diffuse institutional framework and the divergent political vision of the Andean countries as deficiencies. However, European scholars, who have addressed their regional integration process, and even compared it with the Andean one, started from a different theoretical notion by cataloging them as supranational political systems, which allowed them, unlike the Latin American scholars, to introduce theoretical and methodological tools of Political Science to understand the policy-making process in the European Union. In this sense, the research article seeks to understand the policy-making process in the Andean Community, incorporating theories, approaches and methodologies of International Relati...

The overall objective is to support decision making in the management of sales through the drugstores archangel development of a business intelligence solution. For this, we propose a "basic - applied" research, because this research sought to develop a solution based on existing knowledge, which will be complemented by the experience of the researchers, after which it will be applied to a case study and one quasi - experimental research, because they are going to compare the results obtained before the solution is applied to the results obtained when applying the solution. In the present research, the study population were the meetings held for the decision making process in the pharmacy sales which organized a total of 52 meetings per year. To determine the sample to be carried out during the research work, the formula for finite populations sampling was used determining a population s...

The COVID-19 pandemic is a difficult scenario for clinical decision making. Therefore, this paper aims to explain healthcare practitioners some basic concepts about evidence-based decision making with respect on doing or not doing a given intervention. For this, firstly we will discuss in which cases an evidence-based decision making process in necessary. Then, some previous concepts will be clarified (decision making based on pathophysiological plausibility, observations made during clinical practice, clinical evidence, as well as the influence from the pharmaceutical industry). Afterwards steps for evidence-based decision making will be described: Asking a question, looking for references answering this question, critically assess such references, understand the underlying logic for decision making, prepare for decisionmaking, make a balance (benefit, harm, and cost), perform a shared ...
