In the academic careers of subfields like Journalism, the communicational field is at a crisis caused by the gap between theory accumulation and knowledge reproduction. Thirty years ago, Verón and Martín-Barbero proposed a new approach, displacing analysis of the media to mediations. In 2008, Scolari started focusing in the hypermediations, consisting of forwards, hybridization and contaminations. In 2009, Castells put emphasis on the observation of social transformations provoked by mass auto-communication. While we must think in dismassification and fragmentation, obsolete notions like massive culture or cultural industry resist, reducing the profession to a poor monologue with little incidence in the informative management. The subject of this paper is to discuss the factors that disturb the connection between two academic plans necessarily interdependent.

The following is a proposal of an analysis of the transposition of literature to film of the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the essay A Grief Observed by C. S. Lewis. The first aim in both cases is to delve into the new contributions of the latest film version of Austin’s novel and the qualities and characteristics of the film version of the C. S. Lewis note pad, based on the theoretical contributions of such authors as Gerard Genette, Geoffrey Wagner, Brian Mcfarlane, among others. The second purpose is geared to the recognition of the exchange between film and literary language as a representative process of today society. The fact that the adaptations, historically seen with great skepticism, are now continually made and welcomed by the public, calls for a review and deepening of the studies made on that matter in order to know the current situation of the relationship...

Online comments have been a widespread feature in news media. Although audiences recognize it widely, doubts remain about the purpose of these interactive spaces. Arguably, understanding how media value online comments defines a way which public debates are socially perceived. Based on The Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2019, this article analysed current media policies towards online commenting in most accessed news websites in Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Following both a quantitative-qualitative methodology, a direct observation and a textual/visual analysis, this article highlights levels of similarity in these policies: comment sections are still predominantly available (31 from 45); comments are typically placed at the bottom of the page; the interactive options identical (share, like, dislike, report). As the overall cases exclude comment moderation, few media (in Portugal, ...

This article reflects on visual essay as a research instrument within social communication, which builds meaning from the visual, linking ideas, emotions and affects, and contributes to build an inclusive public sphere at the service of the public good, within visual culture. Its hybrid nature intertwines visual and verbal language, which, unlike other visual and audiovisual products, allows argumentation and to build a thought that includes subjectivity, but also to the Other. It is from this relationship with the Other that proposes a way of learning and interacting with reality as something different, according to sensitivities that aestheticization of social communication demands, and obtains its truth from the intersubjectivity with which it is constructed.

The concepts of disinformation and misinformation have almost as many meanings as the number of authors who have treated them. Considered from the semiotic and psychological point of view, disinformation and misinformation seem to be the result of the inadequacy of what is communicated to the reality of an object. The focus of both Political Science and Public Relations is set on disinformation / misinformation as an example of how masses and public opinion can be manipulated, while the vision of Communication Sciences and Information considers such behaviours as natural features of the media in a clearly oversaturated communications ecosystem. This paper describes the different approaches to the topic of disinformation/misinformation made in the above mentioned scientific disciplines.

This article analyses how the concept of citizenship is addressed in 15 Peruvian cybermedia platforms and how Internet users use this term on the basis of the information published, in order to know the semantic coincidences and differences in media and public agendas. This research was carried out using a mixed method which combines the classical analysis of news’ content, computer analysis of users’ comments and interviews. Among findings validated by media journalists, the little attention paid by platforms to citizens is highlighted, as well as the divergence between the approaches of the senders and users. Some solutions to the abovementioned misunderstanding in this field of unquestionable public interest that affects both public debate and the development of citizens who are aware of their roles in society are proposed.
