Objective: To validate an explanatory model of cognitive functioning in older adults, based on inhibitory control, working memory and processing speed. Method: Explanatory-correlational design. 128 people between 60 and 85 years of age were evaluated with working memory and processing speed tests of the WAIS-IV intelligence scale, Stroop Test and Neuropsi. Results: Two models of structural equation analysis were applied. In model 1, with the total sample, inhibitory control better explains the cognitive functioning in adults aged 60 to 85 years (β=0.22; p<0.538). Model 2, which included age as a control variable, divided the sample into two age groups, and found that processing speed best predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 60-70 years (β=2.329; p=0.030). but no variable predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 71 to 85 years. The second model showed better fitting ...

This study had the objective to analyze the mental processes in terms of the thinking abilities and the cognitive functions as well as some levels of text processing that distinguish (differentiate) good and poor reader students from High School. The analysis was based on the theories: The Structural Cognitive Modifiability of Reuven Feuerstein and the Text Processing of W. Kintsch and T.A Van Dick. The cognitive demands of solution from each one of the questions of a standardized reading test were analyzed as mentioned before. The following cognitive processes were identified and organized: Classification, Analysis-Synthesis, Logic inference and Hypothetical reasoning.

The relationship between executive functions (EF), creative personality, and academic performance in Argentine university students was examined. A total of 248 students (M = 22.97 years, SD = 4.43) from various Argentine provinces participated. The Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, the Creative Behavior Scale (ECC), and the Creative Personality Scale (EPC) were used, along with academic performance data and sociodemographic information. Data were collected online through Google Forms and analyzed using Spearman correlations and mediation analysis with robust Maximum Likelihood estimator and Bootstrap. Cognitive flexibility exhibited the most robust correlation with grade point average (r = .281, p < .001), followed by working memory difficulties (r = -.234, p < .001). Creative personality correlated positively with grade point average (...

The preclinical stages of dementia include subtle neurocognitive changes that are not easily detected in standard clinical evaluations. Neuropsychological evaluation is important for the classification and prediction of deterioration in all the phases of dementia. Objective: Compare the neuropsychological performance in healthy older adults with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using principal components analysis. Methods: We evaluated 94 older adults with a clinical protocol which included general measures of mental, emotional and functional state. The neuropsychological protocol included tasks of memory, executive function, attention, verbal fluency and visuoconstructional abilities. We used principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce variables´ dimensionality on neuropsychological evaluation. Results: 33(35%) participants had a normal cogni...

The objective of the study was to evaluate the incidence of the application of trigonometric functions in a heuristic mode, on the cognitive development of adolescents from Cauri. In this sense, the autonomous variable was applied to the dependent variable to generate an effect of improvement in cognitive development. The study had an explanatory level, basic type and quasi-experimental design. The population was made up of 335 young people from Cauri, from which a non-random sample of 46 was selected, who were grouped as follows: 20 in the experimental group and 26 in the control group. The data were collected through three evaluative written tests, each with 10 propositions to develop. The data obtained were processed in Microsoft Excel, which allowed the calculation of the statistics corresponding to the descriptive and inferential analysis. The results showed that the test T value is...

Background/Aims: Dementia is a worldwide public health problem and there are several diagnostic tools for its assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Memory Alteration Test (M @ T) to discriminate between patients with early Alzheimer’s disease (AD), patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (a-MCI), and subjects with a cognitively healthy status (CHS). Methods: The discriminative validity was assessed in a sample of 90 patients with AD, 45 patients with a-MCI, and 180 subjects with CHS. Clinical, functional, and cognitive studies were independently performed in a blinded fashion and the gold standard diagnosis was established by consensus on the basis of these results. The test performance was assessed by means of a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis as area under the curve (AUC). Results: M @ T mean scores were 17.7 (SD = 5.7) in ...

The COVID-19 health crisis posed a new scenario for society, having a ripple effect in, academic areas; to a greater extent, the audiovisual. University entities were ahead of events and proposed TRIC practices that would serve for the times that were to come and that in many cases were ahead of now normalized actions. This research analyzes the cognitive, emotional and social learning acquired by students in quarantine and how the realization of Radio Nebrija in the radio field and Nebrija Talent in the television field, two TRIC projects based on an ABP methodology, served to configure new working models for students and new university dynamics for teachers. The change from ICT context to TRIC is exposed and through a discussion group with young students and in-depth interviews with experts in the field of teaching and learning environments. The effedtiveness od intermethodology in aca...

Intelligence is a construct of notable impact in our sociocultural context, related to a wide range of conceptual and operational definitions which originate positions that highlights cognitive and abstract elements and emotional and social skills, as well was perspectives that are focused on processes underlying the intelligent performance, such as in the case of executive functions (EFs), which are configured as cognitive processes that make it possible the self-regulation (Miyake & Friedman, 2012). Similarly, there are approaches that give intelligence a relevant and predictive role of school performance, an aspect strengthened by the psychometric perspective, where the concept of intelligence has been closely linked to learning. In this line, we also find the classical perspective of crystallized Intelligence of Cattell (1943), which refers to the knowledge acquired through educa...

The objective was to determine the psychometric properties of the F-COPES in the Colombian population. Cross-sectional study, with 1373 people, aged between 18 and 84 years. Data were analyzed in Jasp, exploratory factor analyzes were performed using the weighted least squares estimation method and a promax-type oblique rotation. Confirmatory factor analyzes with diagonalized weighted least squares estimators and robust analysis methods. Internal consistency analysis using Cronbach’s Alpha indices, McDonald’s Omega, and the highest lower limit index. A structure of five factors was found, four original ones: finding social support, cognitive restructuring, finding spiritual support and passive evaluation, and a new one: neighbor support. The scale evaluates family functioning in crisis situations in the Colombian context.
