The fire in the structure causes the temperature of the concrete surface to increase, thus reducing its resistance to compression, bending and elastic modulus. Although concrete has a poorer conductor than steel, the constant high temperature on the surface causes gradual heating in its inner layer. As a building material, concrete is widely used due to its high resistance to fire, it is essential to withstand one of the most severe disasters that a structure can withstand in its life. The objective of this document is to carry out a systematic review of the effects that fire has on the mechanical and thermal properties of reinforced concrete structures. 50 articles published in a database indexed between the years 2011 and 2021 were reviewed, distributed as follows: 28 in Scopus, nine in Web of Science, eight in Scielo, three in ScienceDirect and two in EBSCO, referring to concrete resi...

It is getting more frequent the deteriorated work rehab, the corrections of design flaws or poor constructive process. Because of this, it is required not only to rehabilitate but to rearrange the structures taking into consideration that that intervention have to fulfill the mechanic improvements. This research intents to make known the benefits that the reinforced polymer composite systems with carbon fiber give to improve the mechanical performance of structural concrete elements. The results of the resistance to the compression trials at 28 days of the unreinforced specimens was of 12 MPa, and with the incorporation of the reinforced polymer with carbon fiber (RPCF) at 100% it improves 2.67 times its resistance (32.04 MPa), while the reinforced specimens at 50%, improves 1.57 times its resistance (18.84 MPa). It can be concluded that the application of the RPCF, considerably increase...

What we have in Peru at the beginning of the XXIst century is a formal and not a real nationState. It did not let the market to perform efficiently; neither did it properly satisfy the demands of the majority of the people. This led to the State’s loss of legitimacy. This can be explained by the lack of a political elite capable of putting forward a long-term project to the country. The reversal of that deficit works on the premise that the historical project will contribute decisively in the nation-building process only if it accomplishes to carrying out the essential interests of the population and to safeguard the strategic interests of the country.

The present study takes as its starting point the exclusion that phrasal verbs traditionally have experienced in the field of phraseological studies, and more specifically, those carried out in the sphere of locutions. In order to determine if the mentioned exclusion has been correct, we have carried out a detailed analysis of a corpus of 50 phrasal verbs, in light of the academic debate that during the last decades has been establishing the main defining criteria of the phrases. The criteria mentioned have been two of a formal nature, such as multiverbality and fixation, and one semantic, the idiomaticity of the whole structure. After this analysis, we have been able to verify that, with certain formal peculiarities typical of these verb+preposition as the propositional reaction and its role as an attachment to the verb, phrasal verbs fully meet the defining criteria.

The ever-growing global production of glass generates high waste percentages, the vast majority of which does not get recycled hence increasing the concern on its environmental impact. Studies on the pozzolanic properties of glass powder emerged as a solution to the abundance of waste glass powder available and its insufficient recycling. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence 10%,15% and 20% of waste soda-lime glass powder as partial cement replacement; fresh concrete tests were carried out, as well as compression strength tests at 28 days on grade 280 kg/cm2 concrete produced with pozzolanic cement. Tests results show an insignificant reduction of slump on the concrete mixes, an increase of air content and a decrease in density and compressive strength resistance with increasing glass powder substitution.

The essence of this research is the development of a working model in which two fundamental tools that control the quality of a finished product are brought together. In this case, the synergy is between the BIM methodology and the Lean Construction philosophy, which will be applied together to improve the quality control of the finished product of a retail construction project. Retail projects which are large investment projects, for which the owners demand high quality in the final product. The work model proposed in this study aims to solve the problem of customer dissatisfaction or dissatisfaction with the final product of a retail construction project. The disagreement on the part of the end user is mainly due to poor quality control during all stages of the project. Based on academic articles and previous studies, a procedure will be proposed in which both the Lean Construction too...

The objective of this work is to provide a reliable numerical model using the finite element method (FEM) for the dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. For this purpose, a computer program based on a strain-rate sensitive elasto-plastic theory is developed using 3D brick finite elements. The implicit Newmark scheme with predictor and corrector phases is used for time integration of the nonlinear system of equations. In addition, the steel reinforcement is considered to be smeared and perfectly adhered to concrete and represented by membrane finite elements. Two benchmark examples are analyzed with the present numerical model and results are compared with those obtained by other authors. The present numerical model is able to reproduce the path failure, collapse loads and failure mechanism within an acceptable level of accuracy.

The social, economic, and environmental consequences of the failure of an arch dam make it essential to evaluate its dynamic response to mitigate the risk of a disaster. Since the slenderness and flexibility of these dams tend to increase the fluid-structure interaction during an earthquake, this work compares the dynamic response of a hypothetical arch dam in the Marañón river, in northern Perú, for both full and empty-reservoir conditions. Three formulations were used to estimate the hydrodynamic pressures: Westergaard’s added mass, Eulerian and Lagrangian. The comparisons were performed for earthquakes of distinct seismogenic sources, previously matched to a uniform hazard spectrum with a return period of 10000 years. The finite element method was used to derive the seismic demands of the dam-reservoir-foundation system in COMSOL Multiphysics software, carrying out time-history a...

This paper presents a static analysis of functionally graded single and sandwich beams by using an efficient 7DOFs quasi-3D hybrid type theory. The governing equations are derived by employing the principle of virtual works in a weak form and solved by means of the Finite Element Method (FEM). A C1 cubic Hermite interpolation is used for the vertical deflection variables while C0 linear interpolation is employed for the other kinematics variables. Convergence rates are studied in order to validate the finite element technique. Numerical results of the present formulation are compared with analytical and FEM solutions available in the literature.

This paper presents a comprehensive update of the structural damage assessment of the complex Huaca de la Luna, which is one the most important heritage monuments in northern Peru, and was built by the Moche civilization from 100 AD to 650 AD. The paper presents an overview of the initial hypothesis identified to explain the nature of the damage encountered in the Huaca. The results highlight how the combination of material evaluations, coupled with geotechnical investigations have been essential in constructing a series of 2D nonlinear FE models for the structural analyses under gravitational loading of the Huaca. Results of the analyses conducted to date show the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for assessing the structural safety in these types of buildings. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of the nonlinear modelling techniques available today for describing the structural behaviour of masonry infills and their interaction with frame structures subjected to in-plane loads. Following brief overviews on the behaviour of masonry-infilled frames and on the results of salient experimental tests, three modelling approaches are discussed in more detail: the micro, the meso and the macro approaches. The first model considers each of the infilled frame elements as separate: brick units, mortar, concrete and steel reinforcement; while the second approach treats the masonry infill as a continuum. The paper focuses on the third approach, which combines frame elements for the beams and columns with one or more equivalent struts for the infill panel. Due to its relative simplicity and computational speed, the macro model technique is more wid...

In this work, we present some numerical results about the problem of a rising hot solid sphere immersed in a Newtonian fluid which viscosity depends on the temperature. The model formulated to solve the problem considers two dimensionless parameters: The Peclet number, Pe and a parameter related with the viscosity, e. Small and large variations on e lead to interesting results segregated into two regimes which exhibit an asymptotic structure. To carry out the computations to solve the proposed model, the element finite method was used along with a non-slip boundary condition for the contact surface between the sphere and the fluid and the results obtained were compared to those shown recently in papers related wherein contact surface has a slip-boundary condition prescribed.

The study examines the incorporation of the premises of structural litigation theory by the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) in decisions under monitoring by the Center for Complex Structural Litigation - Nupec (ADPFs 347, 635, and 709). Adopting a deductive approach and an analytical procedural method, theoretical contributions related to disputes, processes, and structural decisions are initially addressed, including a list of the premises of structural process theory. The article explores the internal restructurings that the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court has implemented to adjust judicial procedures to handle structural disputes in the absence of regulation on structural processes in Brazil. Finally, based on the premises of structural processes identified at the beginning of the study, the contents of Brazilian Federal Supreme Court decisions are analyzed, with the aim of veri...
