The investment bank Goldman Sachs created in October 2003 the forecast of the BRICs 2050 (Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa). The bank's forecast surprised the developed countries of Europe and the US Today the Brics are the Third World Power, after the US and the European Union. The GDP of the BRICs exceeds the GDP of 20 developed countries (G.20). India 2075 will surpass England, Germany, France and the US in GDP and will be positioned after China, ahead of the US and the European Union. India will also surpass China in population. Santanu Sengupta, an expert at Goldman Sachs, is of the opinion that India's population possesses the ideal composition of youth, children and the elderly is fit for working age. The Study forecasts that by 2075 China would have a GDP of 57 trillion. India 52.5 trillion, the US 51.5 trillion and the European Union 30.3 trillion.

In this article I will analyze Vallejo's writings in dialogue with India. This work is divided into three parts: first, I will comment on an exotic reference to India in his first book of poetry Los heraldos negros (1918). Secondly, I will examine the reception of Indian culture, as well as the works and figures of Rabindranath Tagore and Jiddu Krishnamurti, very popular and influential Indian writers of that time, expressed in their articles sent from Europe and published in Mundial, El Norte and Variedades. Finally, I will address the reception of Vallejo's work in India, in terms of the translations of his poems into the different languages of the subcontinent.

Historically, India’s links with Latin America have been cordial, but they lacked of any substance. India approached the region after the political and economic reforms carried out in the 1990s. Even though the commercial dimension was where most efforts have concentrated, there has not been a substantial increase in values. The Latin American region has used regional integration processes as instruments for development and as means to link with other international actors, like India. The Pacific Alliance, with a vocation towards Asia, is an integration process of open regionalism, whose members are the main trading partners of India in the region. La India se ha preocupado, como todos los demás pueblos, del problema del destino humano: los filósofos como su religión, han considerado este mundo como una cárcel de cuyos lazos es preciso desligarse. La India ofrece algo más independiente y filosófico: los libros sagrados no son, en el país de los brahmanes, la última palabra, sino que estirando sede en su espíritu, se discuten sus doctrinas y se le rechaza o acepta.

El trabajo de investigación se enfoca en la India como una potencia para la región de América Latina y el Caribe, con la cual la relación es aún incipiente. Se busca proponer estrategias efectivas para un mayor acercamiento entre la República de la India y la República del Perú para así contribuir con los objetivos de política exterior del sector de relaciones exteriores, específicamente los objetivos estratégicos uno, dos y tres. Debido a la similitud productiva económica con el Perú, además de analizar la relación con este país, se analiza la relación de la India con Colombia y Chile, concluyendo que la relación con el Perú es aún ínfima y se deben establecer acciones concretas de acercamiento. This article gives an affirmative answer to western positions against theexistence of philosophy in India. It is shown that topics familiar to Greeksand Europeans were treated in India well deep into the XVIth century.Misleading opinions describing Indian thinking as being irrational whenopposed to westem rationality, although both systems might havedisplayed irrational traits, will also be discussed. It is accepted though thatcomparisons don't go further than modern times when westemphilosophers took their own different ways.

Antes de dar lectura a mi exposición, que he titulado, tal vez demasiado pomposamente, "Lengua y tradición en la India", pero que, en realidad, son solamente algunas sencillas reflexiones sobre esta vieja tradición lingüística, deseo expresar mi agradecimiento a los distinguidos miembros de la Academia Peruana de la Lengua por haber tenido la gentileza de elegirme como uno de ellos.
