description RESUMEN El presente estudio buscó analizar la literatura científica en psicología del tránsito y la seguridad vial. Se efectuó una revisión sistemática, identificando investigaciones empíricas e instrumentales publicadas en revistas de psicología indizadas al Sistema de Información Científica RedALyC en el periodo 2001-2016. Se incluyeron 32 artículos, codificándose las variables: revista de publicación, país de edición de la revista, autor(es), filiación institucional, país de filiación institucional, método y muestra/participantes. Además, para identificar las principales áreas de trabajo, se realizó un análisis temático cualitativo del título, los objetivos de investigación y los resultados. Los hallazgos revelan que la mayoría de las publicaciones corresponden a instituciones españolas, así también, predominan las investigaciones empíricas que emplean la estrategia manipulativa y consideraron como muestra a los adultos conductores. Por otra parte, resaltan las siguientes áreas de trabajo: a) Diferencias individuales, b) Actitudes, comportamientos de riesgo y medidas de autoprotección, c) Aspectos metodológicos. A partir de la presente revisión se discuten perspectivas de investigación a futuro en relación a la psicología del tránsito y la seguridad vial.

Was a theoretical study of systematic review, identifying empirical and instrumental research published in psychology journals indexed in Scientific Information System RedALyC in the period 2001-2016. Were included 32 articles, coding the variables: journal of publication, country edition of the journal, author (s), institutional affiliation, country institutional affiliation, method and sample/participants. In addition, to identify the main areas of work, was performed a qualitative thematic analysis of the title, the research objectives and the results. The findings reveal that the majority of publications correspond to Spanish institutions, thus also, empirical research that used manipulative strategy and considered as drivers adults predominate. On the other hand, highlight the following areas of work: a) Individual differences, b) Attitudes, risk behaviors and measures of self-protection, c) Methodological aspects.
