Se realizaron análisis de correlación de Pearson con variables hidroclimáticas como precipitación, temperaturas máximas y mínimas, así como con los índices ENSO (E, C e ICEN), complementando un análisis de intensidad para identificar los factores ambientales que impulsan los cambios. Los resultados muestran que MODIS detectó cambios más dinámicos (32.8% de los píxeles) frente a ESA-CCI (6.8%), lo que evidencia diferencias en la sensibilidad temporal de ambos productos: MODIS capta mejor las variaciones de corto plazo, mientras ESA-CCI refleja tendencias más estables. MODIS detectó mayores intensidades anuales, especialmente en la cuenca alta, donde se evidenció una expansión urbana significativa y deforestación asociada a eventos térmicos y de El Niño desde 2011. Ambos productos coinciden en una reducción de tierras agrícolas y aumento de suelo desnudo, sugiriendo procesos de degradación agrícola y potencial desertificación. Las correlaciones significativas entre las variables climáticas y la dinámica de cobertura reflejan la influencia de eventos extremos como El Niño y cambios térmicos. Estos hallazgos subrayan la importancia de integrar datos satelitales multifuente para comprender la variabilidad de la vegetación y la necesidad de políticas adaptativas que mitiguen la degradación en tierras bajas y promuevan la conservación en zonas altas.Land use and land cover (LULC) changes in the Piura River Basin, Peru, were analyzed from 2001 to 2022 using global MODIS and ESA-CCI datasets harmonized into six major land cover classes: Forest, Non-Forest Vegetation, Cropland, Bare Soil, Water and Urban. Pearson correlation analyses with hydroclimatic variables, including precipitation (PP), maximum (Tx) and minimum (Tn) temperatures, and El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) indices (E, C, ICEN), complemented the intensity analysis to explore environmental drivers. The analyses focused on the lower-middle and upper basin regions during wet (December-May) and dry (June-November) seasons. The results show that MODIS detected more dynamic changes (32.8% of the pixels) compared to ESA-CCI (6.8%), highlighting differences in the temporal sensitivity of both products: MODIS captures short-term variations more effectively, while ESA-CCI reflects more stable long-term trends. MODIS identified greater annual change intensities, particularly in the upper basin, where significant urban expansion and deforestation were observed, associated with thermal fluctuations and El Niño events since 2011. Both products agree on a reduction in agricultural lands and an increase in bare soil, suggesting processes of agricultural degradation and potential desertification. Significant correlations between climatic variables and land cover dynamics reveal the influence of extreme events such as El Niño and thermal changes.
