Se describió la relación que tiene la Educación ambiental con la cultura ambiental, conciencia ambiental, responsabilidad ambiental y desarrollo sostenible. De igual manera, se establecen comparaciones con currículos institucionales de diferentes países, y se expone la normativa vigente a nivel nacional. Los resultados permiten observar que, a pesar del auge el término de Educación Ambiental en el mundo, son pocos las investigaciones que exploran la efectividad que tienen en los centros educativos.
