Determinar si el uso de antihipertensivos es factor protector para cáncer colorrectal en pacientes atendidos en el Instituto Regional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas, periodo 2008 a 2023. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio analítico de casos y controles en el que se incluyeron 244 pacientes sin diagnóstico de cáncer colorrectal y 61 pacientes con cáncer colorrectal según criterios de selección, que se separaron en función del uso de medicación antihipertensiva. Se calcularon los estadísticos chi-cuadrado y odds ratio. Resultados: En el análisis bivariado se determinaron factores estadísticamente relacionados con mayor riesgo de cáncer colorrectal; la frecuencia de uso de antihipertensivos en pacientes adultos con cáncer colorrectal fue de 10 %, la frecuencia de uso de antihipertensivos en pacientes adultos sin cáncer colorrectal fue de 22 % por lo tanto el uso de antihipertensivos es factor protector para cáncer colorrectal con un odds ratio de 0.39 (p<0.05). En el grupo de pacientes con cáncer colorrectal, la prevalencia de anemia y diabetes mellitus fue significativamente mayor (p<0,05). El análisis multivariado reveló que el uso de antihipertensivos era un factor protector frente al cáncer colorrectal y que la diabetes mellitus y la anemia eran factores de riesgo. Material and methods: An analytical case-control study was conducted in which 244 patients without a colorectal cancer diagnosis and 61 patients with one based on selection criteria, which were separated based on the use of antihypertensive medications, were included. Chi-square and odds ratio statistics were computed. Results: In the bivariate analysis, factors statistically related to a higher risk of colorectal cancer were determined; the frequency of use of antihypertensives in adult patients with colorectal cancer was 10 %, the frequency of use of antihypertensives in adult patients without colorectal cancer was 22 %, the use of antihypertensives is a protective factor for colorectal cancer with an odds ratio of 0.39 which was significant (p<0.05). In the group of patients with colorectal cancer, the prevalence of anemia and diabetes mellitus was considerably greater (p<0.05). The multivariate analysis revealed that the use of antihypertensive medications was a protective factor against colorectal cancer and that diabetes mellitus and anemia were risk factors.
