Se incluyeron a 50 pacientes mayores de 65 años con fractura intertrocantérica manejados quirúrgicamente, donde el primer grupo de cohorte (25 pacientes) fueron tratados con hemiartroplastía y el segundo grupo de cohorte (25 pacientes) con fijación interna con tornillo placa deslizante. Se midió la efectividad usando la calidad de vida con el Short Form – 12 (SF-12), la morbilidad tardía que comprende si presenta dolor, luxación o erosión acetabular, y el tiempo de estancia hospitalaria. RESULTADOS: Los pacientes sometidos a hemiartroplastía, se determinó que 16 pacientes (64%) tuvieron mejor calidad de vida, 20 pacientes (80%) presentaron morbilidad tardía y además el promedio en la estancia hospitalaria fue de 4 días. Los pacientes sometidos a fijación interna con tornillo placa deslizante, se determinó que 18 pacientes (72%) tuvieron mejor calidad de vida, 15 pacientes (60%) presentaron morbilidad tardía y además el promedio en la estancia hospitalaria fue de aproximadamente 3 días (2.68 días). CONCLUSIONES: Los pacientes sometidos a fijación interna con tornillo placa deslizante obtienen mejor efectividad comparado con la hemiartroplastía.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational, retrospective, analytical, transversal and a cohort study was conducted in the Orthopedics and traumatology service at the Hospital Essalud IV “Víctor Lazarte Echegaray”, between January 2010 and December 2015. 50 patients were included over age 65 with trochanteric fracture, which were treated surgically. The first cohort (25 patients) was treated partial arthroplasty and the second cohort (25 patients) with internal fixation with plate sliding screw. The effectiveness was measured using the quality of life with the Short Form-12 (SF - 12), late morbidity was measured if the patient had pain, dislocation or acetabular erosion; and the length of hospital stay. RESULTS: Patients undergoing partial arthroplasty , it was determined that 16 patients ( 64 %) had better quality of life , 20 patients (80 %) had late morbidity and also the average hospital stay was 4 days . Patients undergoing internal fixation with screw slide plate , it was determined that 18 patients ( 72 %) had better quality of life , 15 patients (60 %) had late morbidity and also the average hospital stay was about 3 days ( 2.68 days).
