Demostrar que FIB-4 mayor o igual a 3.5 tiene valor como predictor de várices esofágicas en cirrosis hepática Material y método: Se llevó a cabo un estudio observacional, de diseño de prueba diagnóstica en el que se incluyeron a 139 pacientes con diagnóstico de cirrosis hepática según criterios de selección, en los cuales se observó la presencia o ausencia de várices esofágicas, se calculó la frecuencia de FIB-4 mayor o igual a 3.5 en ambos grupos, se calculó la rentabilidad, sensibilidad, especificidad, valor predictivo positivo, valor predictivo negativo y área bajo la curva para la prueba en estudio. Resultados: De los 139 pacientes incluidos en el estudio, 115 (83%) presentaron várices esofágicas y 24 (17%) no las presentaron. De los pacientes con várices esofágicas el 66% presentó un FIB-4 alto, y de los pacientes sin várices esofágicas un 37% presentó un FIB- 4 alto. Un FIB-4 alto predice várices esofágicas con rentabilidad, sensibilidad, especificidad, valor predictivo positivo y negativo de 65.46%, 66.09%, 62.50%, 89.41% y 27.78%. El área bajo la curva fue de 0.7. Conclusión: FIB-4 mayor o igual a 3.5 presenta un grado de exactitud intermedia como predictor de várices esofágicas en cirrosis hepática |

Results: Of the 139 patients included in the study, 115 (83%) had esophageal varices and 24 (17%) did not. Of the patients with esophageal varices, 66% had a high FIB-4, and of the patients without esophageal varices, 37% had a high FIB-4. A high FIB-4 predicts esophageal varices with profitability, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of 65.46%, 66.09%, 62.50%, 89.41% and 27.78%. The area under the curve was 0.7.
