Objetivo: Determinar si el asma bronquial es un factor asociado a fibrilación auricular en el hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio analítico, retrospectivo, de tipo casos y controles, donde se incluye a 318 pacientes (106 casos y 212 controles) del servicio de medicina interna del Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray de Trujillo entre las fechas de julio 2019 y julio 2023. Resultados: Se evidenció que 12.3% de pacientes con fibrilación auricular, presentó asma, mientras que el 87.7% de estos pacientes no presentó asma. No se evidencia asociación estadísticamente significativa entre asma y fibrilación auricular en el análisis multivariado (valor p =0.076). En cambio, diabetes mellitus tipo 2 e hipertensión arterial presentaron asociación estadísticamente significativa con Odds Ratio ajustados de 2.45 [IC al 95% de 1.49 - 4.02] y 2.64 [IC al 95% de 1.59 - 4.38], respectivamente. Conclusiones: En el presente estudio podemos concluir que el asma no es un factor asociado estadísticamente significativo para fibrilación auricular. Diabetes mellitus tipo 2 e hipertensión arterial están asociados significativamente con fibrilación auricular

There is controversial evidence about whether asthma is a factor with a statistically significant association with atrial fibrillation. Objective: Determine if bronchial asthma is afactor associated with atrial fibrillation in the Victor Lazarte Echegaray hospital. Materials and methods: An analytical, retrospective, case-control study was carried out, which includes 318 patients (106 cases and 212 controls) from the internal medicine service of the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital in Trujillo between the dates of July 2019 and July 2023. Results: It was evident that 12.3% of patients with atrial fibrillation presented asthma, while 87.7% of these patients did not present asthma. There was no statistically significant association between asthma and atrial fibrillation in the multivariate analysis (p value =0.076). On the other hand, type 2 diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension presented a statistically significant association with adjusted Odds Ratios of 2.45 [95% CI of 1.49 - 4.02] and 2.64 [95% CI of 1.59 - 4.38], respectively.
