De ellos, 126 pacientes se sometieron a una intervención quirúrgica con la colocación de malla utilizando la técnica Sublay, mientras que otros 126 pacientes se sometieron a la intervención quirúrgica con la colocación de malla utilizando la técnica Onlay. Se examinó la relación entre la técnica quirúrgica de colocación de la malla y la incidencia de hernia recurrente incisional utilizando la prueba de chi cuadrado. Además, se analizaron los factores demográficos, clínicos y quirúrgicos asociados con la presencia de hernia recurrente incisional. Resultados: La población incluida en el estudio se compone en un 67 % de hombres, con una edad promedio de 50.4 años. Se observó una tasa de recurrencia del 77.8% en los pacientes sometidos a la colocación de malla mediante la técnica Sublay, mientras que en aquellos tratados con la técnica Onlay fue del 14.3% (RR 5.44; IC 95% (0,35 - 8,43); p<0.05). La mayoría de los pacientes experimentaron hernias recurrentes durante el segundo y tercer año después de la cirugía. Además, se encontró una asociación significativa entre el tabaquismo y la hernia recidivante incisional. Conclusión: La asociación entre la técnica Onlay de colocación de malla quirúrgica para las hernias incisionales y la disminución de la recurrencia de las hernias comparado con la técnica Sublay de colocación de malla quirúrgica no fue estadísticamente significativa. |

Material and methods: A retrospective cohort of 252 patients older than 18 years was performed. Of them, 126 patients underwent a surgical intervention with mesh placement using Sublay technique, while other 126 patients underwent surgical intervention with mesh placement using Onlay technique. The relationship between the surgical technique of mesh placement and the incidence of incisional recurrent hernia was examined using the chi-square test. In addition, demographic, clinical, and surgical factors associated with the presence of incisional recurrent hernia were analyzed. Results: The population included in the study comprises about 67 % males, with a mean age of 50.4 years. A recurrence rate of 77.8% was observed in patients undergoing mesh placement by Sublay technique, whereas in those treated with Onlay technique it was 14.3% (RR 5.44; 95% CI (0.35 - 8.35). 43); p < 0.05). Most patients experienced recurrent hernias during the second and third year after surgery. In addition, a significant association between smoking and incisional recurrent hernia was found.
