El grupo de participantes elegido para la investigación estuvo conformado por 284 participantes pertenecientes a los ciclos del I a X de la facultad de Ingeniería Civil. Así mismo, se utilizaron dos instrumentos para recolectar los datos: el cuestionario de la Escala Rasgo de Metaconocimientos sobre Estados Emocionales (TMMS-24) y el cuestionario de la Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg (RSE). Los resultados obtenidos mediante el análisis estadístico no paramétrico Rho de Spearman respaldaron la hipótesis general planteada, revelando una correlación moderada y positiva entre inteligencia emocional y autoestima (Rho=0.457). Siendo así, esta relación dio como resultado ser altamente significativa, dado que el valor bilateral obtenido fue menor a 0.01. Lo que lleva a la aceptación de la hipótesis propuesta en el estudio, proporcionando bases sólidas para desarrollar aplicaciones prácticas e inspirar investigaciones futuras sobre la relación entre inteligencia emocional y autoestima en universitarios.

A basic methodology, non-experimental and correlational descriptive in nature, was employed. The selected sample for the study consisted of 284 participants from cycles I to X of the Civil Engineering faculty. Two instruments were used to collect the data: the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) questionnaire for assessing emotional intelligence, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) questionnaire. The results obtained through the non-parametric statistical analysis using Spearman's Rho supported the general hypothesis, revealing a moderate and positive correlation between emotional intelligence and self-esteem (Rho=0.457).
