Para determinar el grado de severidad de las maloclusiones se llevó a cabo el examen clínico utilizando el Índice de Estética Dental (DAI) y para determinar el nivel de autoestima de los escolares, se aplicó el cuestionario validado, Test de Rosenberg. Se utilizó el análisis estadístico de Rho de Spearman y se estableció un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: Los hallazgos indicaron que, sí existe relación significativa entre la severidad de las maloclusiones y nivel de autoestima en escolares entre 12 y 17 años (p < 0.001), representando una correlación inversa moderada (Rho= -0.666). El sexo masculino representó una correlación inversa alta (Rho= -0.788) con respecto al sexo femenino que representó una correlación inversa moderada (Rho= -0.572). El grupo de 15 a 17 años representó una correlación inversa alta (Rho= - 0.831) con respecto al grupo de 12 a 14 años que representó una correlación inversa moderada (Rho= -0.454). Conclusiones: A mayor severidad de maloclusión se encontró un menor nivel de autoestima en escolares entre 12 y 17 años.

To determine the degree of severity of the malocclusions, the clinical examination was carried out using the Dental Aesthetics Index (DAI) and to determine the level of self-esteem of the schoolchildren, the validated questionnaire, Rosenberg Test, was applied. Spearman's Rho statistical analysis was used and a significance level of 5% was established. Results: The findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between the severity of malocclusions and the level of self-esteem in schoolchildren between 12 and 17 years old (p < 0.001), representing a moderate inverse correlation (Rho= - 0.666). The male sex represented a high inverse correlation (Rho= -0.788) with respect to the female sex, which represented a moderate inverse correlation (Rho= -0.572).
