Sumario: | The pepper or paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the vegetables that today is giving great economic importance in the commercial world for its many applications in human nutrition; for its high content of vitamin "C" (INFOAGRO 2002). There is currently a great demand for this product especially in the European markets and countries considered higher global production of fresh peppers, as in China, with output of (10,533,584 MT), Mexico followed this with (1733900 TM.), Turkey (1.5 million MT.), Spain (989,600 MT.) (INIA 1995). Regarding our country pepper plantations are at greater length in the departments of Lima, Ica, Arequipa, and Tacna, with a total of 2000 hectares. Approximately yields according to statistical data for the years 2003 - 2004, ranging from 12 to 15 tons per hectare, with a traditional subsistence agriculture; research was conducted using good germplasm and good agronomic management giving more than encouraging results for farmers engaged in this field getting itself to get between 22 to 25 tons hectare (INIA -1995). With regard to region of San Martin did not have real statistics on the total production of pepper Paprika, horticultural producers as they do in isolation and in small quantities being a little difficult to obtain reliable results with regard to the area he has dedicated this agricultural activity. |
