The Kirby Bauer method and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) were used to evaluate the antibacterial activity. The calculation of the standard deviation was used, the coefficients of variation were evaluated and the multiple comparisons test was used using homogeneous subsets; all with a level of significance of 0.05 (P <0.05). RESULTS: The susceptibility of Streptococcus pyogenes to EOOV was 15.17mm, 15.33mm, 16.08mm and 18.75mm at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% respectively and the MIC of EOOV was 25% (230.81mg / mL). Likewise, strains of Streptococcus pyogenes showed "average sensitivity" to the AEOV groups of 75% and 100% in 100% and to the EOOV groups of 25% and 50% in 83% and 92% respectively. CONCLUSION: There is an antibacterial effect of EOOV on Streptococcus pyogenes isolated from pharyngeal swab.

MATERIAL Y METODOS: Estudio de tipo experimental del efecto antibacteriano de las concentraciones al 25%, 50%, 75% y 100% del AEOV sobre Streptococcus pyogenes; se utilizó como control positivo Penicilina G Benzatina y como control negativo Tween80. Se empleó el método de Kirby Bauer y la concentración mínima inhibitoria (CIM) para evaluar la actividad antibacteriana. Se utilizó el cálculo de la desviación de estándar, se evaluó los coeficientes de variación y la prueba de comparaciones múltiples utilizando subconjuntos homogéneos; todas con un nivel de significancia del 0,05 (P< 0,05). RESULTADOS: La susceptibilidad de Streptococcus pyogenes frente al AEOV fue de 15.17mm, 15.33mm, 16.08mm y 18.75mm al 25%, 50%, 75% y 100% respectivamente y la CIM de AEOV fue la de 25% (230.81mg/mL). Asimismo, las cepas de Streptococcus pyogenes mostraron “sensibilidad media” a los grupos de AEOV de 75% y 100% en un 100% y a los grupos de AEOV de 25% y 50% en un 83% y 92% respectivamente.
