description La enfermedad hipertensiva del embarazo se presenta en un 6 a 8% de todos los embarazos, de los cuales, aproximadamente, 70% tienen el diagnóstico de Preeclampsia. La enfermedad hipertensiva condiciona prematuridad, bajo peso al nacer y un incremento de muertes perinatales. El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como fin determinar la relación entre Preeclampsia y bajo peso al nacer. Materiales y métodos: el estudio de Casos y Controles se desarrolló en el Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo. El Sistema Informático Perinatal (SIP) aportó los datos pertinentes de 11 años seleccionados mediante un Muestreo probabilístico Sistemático. Resultados: se seleccionó 130 casos y 260 controles, pareados según sexo del Recién Nacido (RN). Se determinó una asociación positiva entre Preeclampsia y bajo peso al nacer con un OR de 7.17 (IC OR: 4.199 - 12). Conclusiones: La Pre eclampsia es un factor de riesgo para el bajo peso de recién nacidos. Palabras clave: Preeclampsia, Bajo peso al nacer, enfermedad hipertensiva del embarazo.
