Sumario:ABSTRACT Toxocariosis is a zoonosis caused by the larva of Toxocara canis or cati, and affects mainly the liver, eye and brain of the human being. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the seroprevalence of antibodies against Toxocara sp. and the risk factors in children of the Manuel Arévalo sector of the district of Esperanza (Trujillo, Peru) during 2018. The population studied consisted of 115 children, of both sexes and from 1 to 10 years of age. Each child was interviewed using a validated survey form to obtain data related to the risk factors. To determine the seropositivity of IgG antibodies against T. canis each child was extracted 5 mL of blood which was centrifuged to obtain the serum and process the indirect ELISA kit (Accu DiagTM Toxocara IgG-Immuno Diagnostics-), in two runs. We found an overall seroprevalence of 27% and positive association (p <0.05) with frequent visits to parks and the non-frequency of hand washing. In conclusion, the seroprevalence of antibodies against Toxocara sp. in children of the Manuel Arévalo sector it is high and the risk factors are the frequent visit to parks and the non-frequency of hand washing.
