description El presente estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la frecuencia de contacto de la tercera molar retenida y el canal mandibular en imágenes Tomográficas registradas en el Centro de Diagnóstico por Imágenes de la ciudad de Lima, durante el periodo de enero a octubre del 2008. Se analizaron las imágenes tomográficas que mostraban al menos una tercera molar retenida, archivadas en el ordenador del Centro de Diagnóstico por Imágenes, registradas y tomadas de Enero a Octubre del 2008. Los resultados mostraron una frecuencia de contacto entre la tercera molar y el canal mandibular de 61.59%. La presencia de contacto entre la tercera molar y el canal mandibular fue más frecuente en pacientes con edades entre 36 y 45 años (64.00%), en el género femenino se presentó un 63.81%, teniendo una mayor frecuencia las terceras molares retenidas con posición horizontal (70.00%). Así mismo las terceras molares retenidas clase III y las que presentaban posición C fueron la más frecuentes con 85.96% y 90.38% respectivamente. La posición lingual del canal mandibular con respecto a la tercera molar fue más frecuente (71.67%) que otras posiciones. Palabras clave: Imagen tomográfica, Tercera molar retenida, Canal mandibular.
