The present research paper is a retrospective descriptive study aimed to determine the consumption and cost of Aztreonam in the Services (Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit) of the Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray in 2009, to assess the trends in consumption and possible deviations during the study period involving indiscriminate use of this medicine. The sample universe was composed of computerized monthly records of hospitalized patients with prescription Aztreonam served by the Hospital Pharmacy through the unit dose system (SISMUD). For this, the data were taken of consumption of Management System Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray, during the period from 01 January to 31 December of the year 2009 which were processed and analyzed in an Excel spreadsheet, taking as general parameters of the annual consumption of services. Aztreonam consumption was expressed in DDD/100 bed-day, using the methodology recommended by the Collaborating Centre of the World Health Organization for drug utilization studies in services Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray, was 0.4 DDD/100camas/day annual average. The annual cost of Aztreonam for the Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray in 2009 was S/. 65653.92
