The present research paper is a retrospective descriptive study aimed to determine the consumption and cost of Aztreonam in the Services (Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit) of the Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray in 2009, to assess the trends in consumption and possible deviations during the study period involving indiscriminate use of this medicine. The sample universe was composed of computerized monthly records of hospitalized patients with prescription Aztreonam served by the Hospital Pharmacy through the unit dose system (SISMUD).
