Sumario:In the present study, the epidemiological characteristics of the human anthrax outbreak during 2015 were determined in the Chulucanas district, Morropón province, Piura department. This is an observational cross-sectional applied study, where 103 subjects who were interviewed and examined were enrolled. IgG ELISA, PCR and culture tests were performed for the diagnosis of Bacillus anthracis in which 44 cases of human anthrax were determined, including 15 confirmed cases and 29 probable cases. The most frequent signs and symptoms were reddening, itching and blistering in the area of injury, followed by fever, headache, joint pain, chills and extensive edema of the lesion. The bivariate analysis showed a strong association in those that were in contact with the meat of cattle by manipulation had an OR = 19.50 (IC95% 6.51 to 58.39), p = 0.001, and slaughter had an OR = 9.13 (IC95% 2, 44 to 34.19), p = 0.001. An outbreak of anthrax was confirmed within an epidemiological context related to a common exposure source of cattle, with a low rate of attack associated with slaughtering and handling. This research will allow to expand the knowledge about this pathology.
