Sumario:OBJECTIVE: To determine the clinical utility of lactate clearance as an indicator of mortality prognosis in severe sepsis and septic shock in the Shock trauma Unit of the Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo Hospital, Chiclayo-Lambayeque, Peru. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present work is a prospective, observational and analytical study; which will be carried out in a cohort of cases of patients over 18 admitted during January 1 to December 30, 2019. CONCLUSIONS: Sepsis and septic shock are secondary responses to a potentially fatal organic dysfunction, characterized by inappropriate peripheral uncompensated vasodilation, with high mortality, being a public assistance problem both for the high percentage of mortality and for the high costs That generate your attention. The elevation of the lactate in the patient with severe sepsis or septic shock is due to global hypoperfusion and metabolic alterations in the sepsis cell; Therefore, its use as a biomarker is currently used to determine early, timely management and establish the prognosis of mortality in patients with sepsis and septic shock.
