Sumario:The objective was to determine the association between self-esteem and motivation for professional practice in inmates of the Faculty of Nursing of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon of the city of Iquitos -2017. The method used was the quantitative and the non-experimental design of correlational and transversal type. The population. The population of the present study consisted of 27 interns with regular enrollment in the first semester of 2017, from the Faculty of Nursing of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon of the city of Iquitos. The sample made up of 100% of the population. The technique was the self-report survey, the instruments: Rosenberg's self-esteem scale (0.87 validity and 0.72 reliability), and the motivation test for the professional profession of nursing (89% validity and 87% reliability). The data was analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 program. The inferential statistical test was that of Tau-b-de Kendal. Results: In Selfesteem: 51.3% (14) internally had good self-esteem, 29.6% (8), normal selfesteem and 18.5% (5) low self-esteem; Motivation: 59.3% (16) internally had high motivation, 22.2% (6) medium motivation and 18.5% (5) low motivation. When performing the inferential analysis, significant results were obtained (value of = 0.454 and p = 0.009). Conclusion: The proposed hypothesis is accepted, that is to say that there is a statistically significant direct correlation between the level of self-esteem and the motivation in inmates of the Faculty of Nursing of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, of the city of Iquitos, during the year 2017.
