Sumario:The study objective was to verify the association between reading comprehension and basic communication skills in second grade high school students from a public high school in the district of Iquitos in the year 2023. It was a confirmatory study, with a crosssectional correlation design, made up of a population of 535 students represented by a sample of 224 individuals chosen with probabilistic methods. The study variables were measured using two questionnaires. The study variables were measured using two questionnaires. The text comprehension results showed that 12.1% reached the beginning level; 30.3% in process; and 57.6% expected achievement. Regarding basic communication skills, it was established that 24.6% reached a high level; 60.3% middle level; and 15.1% low level. This study, applying Spearman's Rho statistical test (p = 0.0000, p < 0.05), concluded that there is a positive association between reading comprehension and basic communication skills in the students of the sample, approving the general hypothesis of the study. The inference analysis by dimensions allowed us to conclude that there is a positive association between literal comprehension and the basic communication skills of the students in the sample, accepting hypothesis 1. It is also concluded that there is a significant association between inferential comprehension and communication skills. basic communication skills of the students, which accepts hypothesis 2. Finally, it is concluded that there is a positive association between critical understanding and the basic communication skills of the students, which accepts hypothesis 3.
