Los visitantes en busca de esparcimiento en espacios naturales y el contacto con la naturaleza van cada vez más en aumento. En el Ecuador esto no es una excepción por lo que analizar la experiencia de los visitantes en una de sus Áreas Naturales Protegidas plantea un precedente para futuras investigaciones en el mismo campo. Este fue el caso de la investigación en la Reserva Ecológica Manglares Churute, cuyo objetivo principal fue identificar si existen o no diferencias significativas en el nivel de satisfacción entre los turistas ecuatorianos y extranjeros que la visitan con respecto al espacio natural, a la infraestructura y a los servicios que se prestan. Asimismo entre los objetivos específicos está el conocer la segmentación demográfica de los visitantes, los aspectos generales de la visita, los niveles de satisfacción con el espacio natural, los niveles de satisfacción con la infraestructura turística y los niveles de satisfacción con los servicios que se prestan en la reserva. Cada uno de estos objetivos se amplía más adelante. Mediante la revisión previa de información y bibliografía disponible, la observación, preparación de entrevistas a los actores involucrados y elaboración de encuestas a los visitantes y su respectivo procesamiento de datos se concluyó que no existen diferencias significativas en el nivel de satisfacción entre los turistas ecuatorianos y extranjeros que visitan la Reserva Ecológica Manglares Churute con respecto al espacio natural, pero sí existen diferencias significativas en el nivel de satisfacción con la infraestructura y con los servicios que presta la reserva. Cabe mencionar que el solo hecho de encontrar un entorno natural bien conservado, la posibilidad de avistar aves, el tener tan cerca monos aulladores y la novedad del manglar ha sido condición suficiente para que los turistas evalúen su experiencia general en la reserva con altos niveles de satisfacción y disfrute. Asimismo se determinó que es recomendable publicar y permitir el acceso a la información del Plan de Manejo de Visitantes de la Reserva, mantener los esfuerzos por la conservación de la flora y fauna y por el mantenimiento del entorno natural de la reserva, promover la inclusión de la comunidad en las actividades, planificación y decisiones dentro de la reserva, capacitar a guías y guardaparques, implementar servicios al turista, mejorar la señalización turística y el estado de las vías de ingreso e incentivar la difusión del turismoEcotourism in Natural Protected Areas is a growing trend among visitors looking for recreational spaces. The number of visitors looking for recreation in natural spaces and contact with nature is increasing. This is also happening in Ecuador. This is why analyzing the experience of visitors going to one of Ecuador’s Natural Protected Areas establishes a cornerstone for future research done in this field. This is the case for the research conducted at the Churute Mangrove Ecological Reserve, which objective was to identify whether there are differences and how significant they are regarding the levels of satisfaction of Ecuadorian and foreign tourists regarding the natural space, the infrastructure and the services offered there. Among the specific objectives there is the knowing of demographic segmentation of visitors, the levels of satisfaction regarding the natural space, touristic infrastructure and the services offered at the Reserve. Each one of these objectives will be explained in detail later on. Through research of the available bibliographic sources, observation, the elaboration of questionnaires to those involved in the functioning of the areas and visitors and the necessary data processing it was concluded that regarding the natural space there are no significant differences between the level of satisfaction of Ecuadorian and foreign tourists that visit the Churute Mangrove Ecological Reserve. However there are significant differences between the levels of satisfaction connected to the infrastructure and the services offered at the reservation. It should be noted that the availability of a well preserved natural environment, the possibility of birdwatching, having howling monkeys close-by and the novelty of a mangrove have influenced the tourists to evaluate their overall experience with high levels of satisfaction and enjoyment.
