Departamento Académico de Industrias ForestalesLa presente investigación tiene como propósito caracterizar anatómicamente la especie y generar resultados en base al tipo de ensayos físicos y mecánicos en condiciones de humedad diferentes y tratamientos de envejecimiento. En relación a las características anatómica confirman la presencia de 3 zonas definidas en corte transversal tal como lo menciona Hoffman (1997), las dimensiones de los elementos anatómicos a 3 niveles de altura los valores hallados se encuentran entre los rangos propuestos por el mismo autor. Respecto a los resultados físicos para el contenido de humedad en condición verde fue de 84.9% y en condición seca al aire de 15.9%. La coloración según la tabla Munsell fue “sombra claro de amarillo” cuya codificación corresponde a 7.5 YR 8/4. Finalmente, la densidad lineal fue de 65.09 g/m. En cuanto a las propiedades mecánicas del material vegetal sin envejecimiento resultaron para tracción 535.92 Kg/cm2 , el alargamiento fue de 1.4 por ciento con respecto a la longitud inicial, la TEA (tensil energy absorption) 31 138,07 J/m2 y la resistencia a la torsión fue de 1.065 kgm. Para el material vegetal con envejecimiento fueron en tracción 584.78 Kg/cm2 , el alargamiento de 0.97 por ciento con respecto a la longitud inicial. La TEA de 15 577.47 J/m2 y la torsión de 0.945 kgm. Los resultados obtenidos tanto en la caracterización anatómica como físico - mecánica han permitido corroborar la resistencia del material vegetal, dotando de valores cuantitativos al uso tradicional cualitativo que por conocimiento ancestral emplean las comunidades. Permitiendo demostrar su calidad como fibra, con posibilidades de incorporarse al mercado de los productos no maderables.This research aims to describe the anatomic characterization of the specie, and to generate results based on the physical and machanical tests carried out at different moisture contents and ageing treatments. In relation with the anatomic characteristics, the presence of 3 defined zones in the cross section is confirmed, as mentioned by Hoffman (1997). The dimensions of the anatomical elements at 3 height levels fall upon the value ranges proposed by the same author. In regard of the physical tests results for moisture content, values reached 84.9% and 15.9% for green and air-dried conditions respectively. The colour defined by Munsell chart was "light shade of yellow" with the 7.5 YR 8/4 code.Finally, linear density was of 65.09 g/m. From mechanical properties, samples of the vegetal material without ageging treatment presented a traction of 535.92 Kg/cm2 , an elongation from initial lenght of 1.4%, a TEA (tensil energy absorption) of 31 138,07 J/m2 , and torsion resistance of 1.065 kgm.
