Esta situación se relaciona con un menor recuento de folículos antrales, el cual está altamente correlacionado con la respuesta a tratamientos de superestimulación ovárica. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la administración de somatotropina bovina recombinante (rbST) en la cantidad y calidad de los ovocitos obtenidos mediante ecografía transvaginal en vacas lecheras superestimuladas con FSH. Veinte vacas Holstein fueron tratadas con 330 µg de FSH a intervalos de 30 días; se aplicaron a cada vaca tanto la rbST como el tratamiento control. El día cero (0) se aplicaron 500 mg de rbST (grupo rbST) o solución salina (grupo control) y un implante de 1 g de progesterona y benzoato de estradiol (2 mL), los días 4, 5 y 6 se inició la inyección de 6 dosis decrecientes de FSH cada 12 horas (total 330 µg) y el día 8 (48 h de coasting), se retiró el implante y se realizó aspiración folicular. La cantidad, tamaño de los folículos y cantidad y calidad de complejos cumulo-ovocito (COC’s) recuperados de los dos tratamientos se analizaron con ANOVA a un nivel de significancia de 0,05. Los resultados no mostraron diferencias estadísticas (p > 0,05) en el número de folículos antrales (18,95 vs. 22,30) y la cantidad y calidad de COC recuperados (5,70 vs. 9,10) entre vacas superovuladas tratadas con rbST y vacas control, respectivamente. En conclusión, el uso de rbST en vacas Holstein superestimuladas con FSH no afecta la cantidad ni la calidad de los ovocitos recuperados.High-producing dairy cattle generally have lower oocyte quantity and quality, which can negatively impact the efficiency of embryo transfer programs. This situation is associated with a lower antral follicle count, which is highly correlated with the response to ovarian superstimulation treatments. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) administration on the quantity and quality of oocytes obtained by transvaginal ultrasound in dairy cows superstimulated with FSH. Twenty Holstein cows were treated with 330 µg of FSH at 30-day intervals; both the rbST and control treatments were applied to each cow. On day zero (0) 500 mg of rbST (rbST group) or saline solution (control group) and a 1 g progesterone and estradiol benzoate implant (2 mL) were applied, on days 4, 5 and 6 the injection of 6 decreasing doses of FSH every 12 hours (total 330 µg) was started and on day 8 (48 h of coasting), the implant was removed and follicular aspiration was performed. The quantity, size of the follicles and quantity and quality of cumulus-oocyte complex (COC´s) recovered from the two treatments were analyzed with ANOVA at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed no statistical differences (p > 0.05) in the number of antral follicles (18.95 vs. 22.30) and the quantity and quality of retrieved COC´s (5.70 vs. 9.10) between superovulated cows treated with rbST and control cows, respectively.
