Sin embargo, la escasa investigación en condiciones locales ha generado un manejo poco eficiente, especialmente en la semilla, cuya variabilidad eleva costos y dificulta prever el rendimiento. Ante esta problemática resulta necesario establecer criterios técnicos para optimizar la producción. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto del tamaño de semilla sobre el crecimiento inicial de jengibre en un suelo ácido de la selva central del Perú (Satipo, Junín). Se evaluaron cinco pesos de semilla (10, 20, 30, 40 y 50 g), distribuidos en un Diseño de Bloques Completamente al Azar con cinco repeticiones. Cada unidad experimental estuvo conformada por plantas establecidas bajo condiciones de campo comercial. Se registraron variables relacionadas con la emergencia, el desarrollo vegetativo y acumulación de biomasa aérea y subterránea, así como la relación entre ambas. A los 40 días después de la siembra los resultados mostraron que el peso de la semilla no influyó significativamente en el porcentaje de emergencia, lo que sugiere que la viabilidad y capacidad de brotación no dependen de este factor. De igual modo a los 150 días después de la siembra, el número de pseudotallos emergidos no presentó una tendencia clara asociada al tamaño de la semilla. En contraste, se observó una relación positiva y significativa entre el peso de la semilla y variables de crecimiento como altura del pseudotallo, número y longitud de hojas, así como en la producción de biomasa aérea y de rizoma. La proporción entre biomasa aérea y subterránea se mantuvo estable en todos los tratamientos. Se concluye que las semillas de mayor peso favorecen un desarrollo inicial más vigoroso y una mayor acumulación de biomasa.Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is one of Peru's agricultural export products, with highinternational demand and great economic importance in the Central Jungle region. However, limited research under local conditions has led to inefficient management, especially in terms of seeds, whose variability increases costs and makes it difficult to predict yields. Given this problem, it is necessary to establish technical criteria to optimize production. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of seed size on the initial growth of ginger in acidic soil in the Central Jungle of Peru (Satipo, Junín). Five seed weights (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 g) were evaluated, distributed in a completely randomized block design with five replicates. Each experimental unit consisted of plants established under commercial field conditions. Variables related to emergence, vegetative development, and accumulation of above-ground and below-ground biomass, as well as the relationship between the two, were recorded. Forty days after sowing, the results showed that seed weight did not significantly influence the percentage of emergence, suggesting that viability and germination capacity do not depend on this factor. Similarly, 150 days after sowing, the number of emerged pseudostems did not show a clear trend associated with seed size. In contrast, a positive and significant relationship was observed between seed weight and growth variables such as pseudostem height, number and length of leaves, as well as above-ground and rhizome biomass production. The ratio between above-ground and below-ground biomass remained stable in all treatments.
