Maestría en Nutrición PúblicaEl objetivo fue estimar el impacto de la suplementación con multimicronutrientes en polvo (MNP) en la reducción de anemia en niños de 10 a 35 meses de edad de Apurímac, a través del método Propensity Score Matching. El diseño del estudio fue analítico, transversal; se realizó un análisis secundario de las bases de datos de la Evaluación de suplementación con MNP en la región de Apurímac, ejecutada por el Centro Nacional de Alimentación y Nutrición durante el 2009 y 2010. El análisis se realizó a través del método Propensity Score Matching para generar un grupo de control. Para la estimación del impacto de los MNP se comparó la prevalencia en cada grupo de estudio ponderada por la probabilidad de participación, aplicando 3 algoritmos de emparejamiento: Vecino más cercano, kernel y regresión lineal local, todos los cálculos se realizaron en el Programa Stata 14 SE. Se encontró que la prevalencia de anemia fue significativamente menor hasta en 11 puntos porcentuales en los niños que consumieron 60 o más sobres (tratados) comparados con los controles. Además, el promedio de hemoglobina aumentó en 0.3 g/dL en el grupo de tratamiento en comparación al grupo control. La suplementación con MNP tuvo impacto para reducir la anemia e incrementar el nivel de hemoglobina en niños que consumieron 60 o más sobres de MNP. Se deben continuar los esfuerzos por reducir la anemia empleando los MNP para prevenir esta deficiencia nutricional.The objective was to estimate the impact of multimicronutrient powder (MNP) supplementation in the reduction of anemia in children from 10 to 35 months of age in Apurimac, through the Propensity Score Matching method. The design of the study was analytical, transversal; a secondary analysis of the databases of the Evaluation of supplementation with MNP in the region of Apurímac was carried out, executed by the National Center of Food and Nutrition during 2009 and 2010. The analysis was performed through the Propensity Score Matching method for generate a control group. For the estimation of the impact of the MNP, the prevalence in each study group weighted by the probability of participation was compared, applying 3 matching algorithms: Nearest Neighbor, Kernel and Local Linear Regression, all calculations were performed in the Software Stata 14 SE. It was found that the prevalence of anemia was significantly lower up to 11 percentage points in children who consumed 60 or more envelopes (treated) compared to controls. In addition, the average hemoglobin increased by 0.3 g/dL in the treatment group compared to the control group. MNP supplementation had an impact to reduce anemia and increase the level of hemoglobin in children who consumed 60 or more envelopes of MNP.
