Su supervivencia está muy relacionada con la ecología de su hábitat, en particular las interacciones con sus hospederos. Estas interacciones pueden describirse como redes en las que destacan determinados hospederos que posibilitan la prevalencia de la mayoría de especies de epífitas ocurriendo en un área, y esto puede cuantificarse mediante un parámetro denominado "strength" o fuerza. Estos hospederos permiten un establecimiento exitoso de las epífitas, capacidad que está relacionada con ciertos caracteres o rasgos eco-morfológicos. Este trabajo determinó cuáles son dichos rasgos en una red de interacciones de orquídeas epífitas y sus hospederos de un bosque húmedo montano en Pasco (Selva Central del Perú). Para ello, se registró la riqueza y abundancia de orquídeas en hospederos de dosel y sotobosque. Para cada hospedero se registraron caracteres eco-morfológicos relacionados a la estructura y los microhábitats. Para determinar qué rasgos son importantes para determinar esta fuerza, se modeló el parámetro en función de los rasgos eco-morfológicos, mediante modelos lineales generalizados. Los modelos indicaron que el diámetro del tronco y la cobertura de musgos son importantes determinantes del parámetro fuerza, para el sotobosque; mientras que a nivel de dosel, fue la altura del tronco. Se puede concluir que los árboles de mayor tamaño promueven la complejidad de interacciones con especies epífitas, posiblemente, debido a la mayor diversidad de microhábitats y área para la colonización. Además, las cortezas con mayor cobertura musgosa proveen agua y nutrientes extra. Estos hallazgos respaldan información previa y resaltan la importancia de los rasgos físicos y ecológicos de los hospederos en el ensamblaje de las comunidades de orquídeas epífitas.Epiphytic orchids represent one of the most important and threatened biodiversity components of tropical rainforests. Their survival is closely related to the ecology of their habitat, in particular the interactions with their hosts. These interactions can be described as networks in which certain hosts stand out and make possible the prevalence of the majority of epiphyte species occurring in an area, and this can be quantified by a parameter called "strength". These hosts allow a successful establishment of epiphytes, a capacity that is related to certain eco-morphological traits. This work determined these traits in a network of interactions between epiphytic orchids and their hosts in a montane cloud forest in Pasco (central Peruvian rainforest). For this purpose, the richness and abundance of orchids in canopy and understory hosts were recorded. For each host, eco-morphological traits related to structure and microhabitats were recorded. To determine which traits are important in determining this strength, the parameter was modeled as a function of eco-morphological traits using generalized linear models. The models indicated that trunk diameter and moss cover were important determinants of the strength parameter for the understory, while trunk height was important at the canopy level. We can conclude that larger trees promote the complexity of interactions with epiphytic species, possibly due to the greater diversity of microhabitats and area for colonization. In addition, bark with greater moss cover provides extra water and nutrients.
