Departamento Académico de Acuicultura e Industrias PesquerasEn el presente estudio se evaluó el efecto de a la exposición de fragmentos de microplástico de polietileno de alta densidad (PEAD) en alevines de trucha arcoíris Oncorhynchus mykiss. Los microplásticos son partículas menores a 5 mm de tamaño cuya presencia en el medio ambiente se debe a la contaminación antropogénica. Esta presencia en el medio acuático puede causar efectos negativos en los peces. Mediante una prueba de exposición corta con muestreo a los 15 días y 30 días; se evaluó la retención de microplásticos en el tracto digestivo y las branquias como también se realizaron análisis histológicos en diferentes órganos de la trucha arco iris expuestos a diferentes concentraciones de microplástico (50, 600, y 1200 partículas/L). En el tracto digestivo se encontró diferencias significativas (p<0.05) entre grupos respecto al número de partículas retenidas; y se observó una tendencia de una mayor acumulación de microplásticos por parte de los alevinos de trucha arco iris en los tratamientos con mayor concentración. El porcentaje de la presencia de fragmentos de PEAD en el tracto digestivo de los peces a los 15 y 30 días varió del 62% a 100%, y en las branquias fue de 3% a 26% en los diferentes tratamientos de menor a mayor concentración de tratamiento; mientras que en el grupo control no hubo presencia de estos microplásticos. En el caso de las branquias, no se observaron diferencias significativas (p<0.05) en la acumulación de microplásticos dado que el número de fragmentos observado en este órgano fue mínimo. Si bien se observaron cambios progresivos en las branquias a nivel histológico como probable consecuencia a la exposición de microplásticos, estos cambios no afectaron el desarrollo normal de los peces como pudo evidenciarse en los índices corporales, los cuales no fueron diferentes del grupo control. El presente estudio demuestra que los microplásticos son acumulados por alevinos de trucha arco iris y, aunque no afecta la supervivencia ni el desarrollo de los peces, las partículas de microplástico que son retenidas en el tracto digestivo y en las branquias podrían generar resultados negativos a largo plazo si la acumulación de estos continua.The present study evaluated the effect of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) microplastics fragments in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss fingerlings. This presence in the aquatic environment could cause negative effects in the fishes. Through a short exposition assay of 15 and 30 days, with their respective samplings. The evaluation of the retention of microplastics in the gastrointestinal tract and in the gills, as well as histology analysis of different organs in the fingerlings of rainbow trout exposed to different concentrations of microplastics particles (50, 600, and 1200 part. /L) were carried out. Thus, within the results of the gastrointestinal tract there were found significant differences (p<0.05) between the treatments regarding the number of particles retained; also, it was seen a higher tendency of accumulation of microplastics in the fingerlings of rainbow trout when there were exposed to a higher treatment concentration. The presence percentage of particles of HDPE found at 15 and 30 days in the gastrointestinal tract ranged from 62% to 100%, and in the gills was from 3% to 26% relative to the treatment concentration, while in the control group there was no presence of this microplastic. In the gill there were seen progressive changes at a histologic level, this could be due to the exposition of microplastics, these changes did not affect the normal development of the fish as it was observed regarding the biometric index that were not different from the control group. The present research shows that the microplastics are accumulated into the rainbow trout fingerlings.
